A strong on-ball defender, he consistently forced his matchup into tight spaces and rushed shot attempts, applying pressure without overcommitting. Groom showed disciplined hand placement and active feet, using quick lateral movement to stay in front and contain drives. Groom embraced physicality, holding his ground on drives, absorbing bumps, and staying connected to disrupt his man’s rhythm, force them into tight spaces, and limit clean looks. Groom also displayed toughness and awareness navigating screens, always fighting through to stay attached and cut off driving angles to the basket.
