Sandys Spiel Fall League Sunday Standouts from Week 1

Week 1 of Sandy's Spiels Fall League brought plenty of standout performances and rising prospects to the gym on Sunday. Here's a look at the players who made the biggest impact and caught my attention in the opening week of league play.    DeGourville exploded for 28 points, leading all scorers throughout Sunday's opening action. He is a confident scorer with a tight handle and a deep bag of tricks to create separation and get downhill. The lead guard is super crafty around the rim, using multiple types of footwork to throw off the timing of shot blockers and finish at the cup through traffic. He is a very capable three-level scorer with the ability to stretch the floor from deep when defenders go under screens or give him open looks from outside. DeGourville is a solid prospect from the 2028 class who is set for a breakout junior year at Sequoyah High School after a big summer.     Nunes is a solid lead guard who showed spurts of high-level scoring in a tough, grind-it-out game for Chattahoochee. He has great speed and a tight handle that allows him to blow by defenders and create looks around the rim. He also showed the ability to space the floor with a smooth jumper from deep and the confidence to let it fly. Nunes could be a big piece of what Chattahoochee is trying to build this season and as a program under Coach Byrdsong.     Elliot is a stocky guard that benefits off doing a lot of the little things. His relentless competitive spirit drives him to rip offensive rebounds, play tough perimeter defense, and finish around the rim through contact. Elliot chipped in 11 points and two steals ina blowout win. This is a guy who can play many roles and be effective on a deep Sequoyah roster that looks ready to rock this fall.     Bratton is a Division I recruit looking to dominate throughout his senior campaign this year at Milton. The wing is an explosive athlete who does just about everything on the floor. When it comes to the intangibles, he is a high-IQ player who sees the floor extremely well and consistently makes great passes, whether in the open floor or off drives to find Milton's shooters spread around the perimeter. He rebounds at a high level as well, using his strength to keep opposing defenders off the boards while flying high above everyone to grab rebounds himself. Bratton's scoring package is impressive, with his ability to get downhill and finish above defenders at the rim standing out. He doesn't need many dribbles to get downhill and put you on a poster. The wing is also a polished shooter from outside, making him an even tougher matchup for opposing defenses.     Golden is the newest member of the University of North Georgia's 2027 recruiting class, and with good reason. He is a high-IQ point guard who can score the ball at an extremely high level while also running the offense and setting up teammates for easy looks. His ability to create off the dribble is really impressive, consistently generating looks from all three levels and scoring efficiently. Golden is also a knockdown shooter from outside and will light you up from deep if you don't get a hand up and run him off the line. Between Milton's depth of shooters and a point guard like Golden running the show, the Eagles could very well be the favorite to win a 6A state championship.     Evans is a polished scorer who can get it done at all three levels. He finished with 19 points in a high-level battle against Milton. His length and size allow him to play bully ball around the rim, using different angles and footwork to get over the top of defenders and score easy buckets. From the outside, Evans can really knock it down, both off the dribble and off the catch. He is a lengthy wing who will continue to catch eyes over the next two years and is looking for a breakout season to solidify himself as one of the best players in all of 1A for a very good St. Francis program.     Samuel is another guy who can really score it and compliments the threat of Evans. Whether its knocking down shots from outside off ball screens, using off ball screens to spring free for open looks, or creating off the dribble he is a guy who can score it efficiently and effectively changing the landscape of a teams offense. He looked super impressive with his patience and ability to attack his spots. Samuel is another guy who can be a premiere player in not only the 1A classification but throughout the entire state.     Turney had a really nice showing from the lead guard spot, finishing with 17 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals. The point guard can really score it from outside and knows how to attack hard closeouts to get into the lane and score with his smooth floater. He may not jump off the page as the most athletic guy in the gym, but he makes up for it with his pace and ability to play at multiple speeds, putting defenders in tough positions and making him a difficult cover. Turney can also really pass the ball, consistently finding shooters and teammates around the basket for easy buckets.
