High School Spotlight: Westfield Shamrocks

The season is still a few months away, but it is never too early to look ahead at the high school season. We will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and more for the upcoming season. He is 162-96 as a head coach.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Will be looking to make a run in Sectional 8. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='2414955' first='Luke' last='Vandegriff']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After spending the past several seasons as a secondary option for Westfield, [player_tooltip player_id='2414955' first='Luke' last='Vandegriff'] enters this year as the Shamrocks' go-to player. This is a pivotal season for Vandegriff, who will have the opportunity to show what he can do with much of Westfield's offense expected to run through him in the post. Last season, he averaged 8.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, but those numbers are expected to take a significant leap with his expanded role. Vandegriff has developed into one of the most improved players in the state, and this season could be the one where everything comes together as he establishes himself as one of the top frontcourt players in Indiana.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player: [player_tooltip player_id='3605201' first='Maddox' last='Smith']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 2030 class is shaping up to be a special one, and one of the top freshmen expected to make an immediate impact is Westfield guard [player_tooltip player_id='3605201' first='Maddox' last='Smith']. The Smith name already carries plenty of weight with the Shamrocks, as his older brother, Braden Smith, left a lasting legacy before going on to star at Purdue. Now, it is Maddox's turn to make his mark. Although undersized, Smith plays with toughness, confidence, and a scorer's mentality. He has a quick release from the perimeter and is never hesitant to let it fly when given space.
