While these players may fall outside the Top 100, each has shown the ability to make an impact and deserves to be on the radar moving forward. Here's a look at the new names joining the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='2915993' first='James' last='Matsik'] leads off the list as the highest-ranked new addition outside of the Top 100 in this update. I have seen Matsik on multiple occasions with [program_tooltip program_id='2842739' first='843' last='Tough'] and at Prep Hoops Camps, but he jumped out at me at The Citadel Team Camp this June. James is a solid, do-it-all type of guard who has a nice frame to finish around the rim, good touch on layups and floaters, and a solid feel to get others involved. Look for him to put up solid numbers for the Battling Bishops this year.

Checking in right behind him at #108 overall is Dixon. I am a fan of Josh's game, and I think he could be a big help in the Runnin' Rebels' push for a State Championship this season. Their window is now, and guys like Dixon have waited their turn through successful years while putting in work in the background. Josh is an excellent perimeter shooter, and has shown improved confidence and feel as a playmaker this summer.

Whetstone is one of the top perimeter defenders outside the Top 100 of the Prep Hoops South Carolina 2028 Rankings. He does a great job of containing the ball, fighting through screens, and staying active with his hands on or off the ball. RJ is also capable of playing either spot in the backcourt, but I think long-term he has some potential as an on-ball playmaker.

Slotting in at #120 in his debut is Lauer of Greer and [program_tooltip program_id='2845767' first='SC' last='Blue Jays']. James could be in for a big junior year, with a lot of shooting volume on the table around a lot of interior-minded players. He can heat up quickly, as he showed with the Blue Jays at the PHL Finals, plus he is capable of driving closeouts and making things happen off two or three dribbles.

McCaskill is a big-bodied guard who showed some good things with Socastee in June. He has transformed it in a lot of ways, with strong and broad shoulders to physically dominate smaller guards in the paint. However, he hasn't lost any of his shooting stroke, as he still is one of the better shooters outside the Top 100.

Next up on the list is Marshall. Chase is one of the most versatile players in the 2028 class, regardless of ranking. He is truly capable of playing any position on the floor on both ends, with a big frame to hold up defensively and clean the glass, plus a good feel for handling and setting others up in various situations. It'll be interesting to see how Marshall is used by the Redhawks this season, but I am confident he will be successful in whatever role he is given.

One of the more under-the-radar guys to know in the Charleston area for this class is Dylan. Tasca started to put some really good things together with Team Charleston and Palmetto Basketball Club during the AAU season, and I liked what I saw from him in June with Cathedral Academy. He is coming along nicely as a perimeter shooter, plus he has the length to get into the paint and finish, too.

McCauley is an emerging wing out of Catawba Ride High School in Fort Mill. I first saw him during the scholastic period at the McBee Summer Runs, and he really caught my eye with a combination of shooting and playmaking. Lucas has a nice frame at 6'3" and is also a football player for the Copperheads.

An upstate Point Guard who could break out this season is El Amin at Woodmont. He should have a lot of the ball because of how their roster is now constructed, and I'm a big fan of his ability to shoot it, beat defenders off the bounce, and finish around bodies. Gavin is as crafty as they come, and his lack of size never seems to stop him from efficiently scoring or setting others up.

[player_tooltip player_id='3705694' first='JJ' last='Galberth'] rounds out my list of new additions to the Prep Hoops South Carolina Class of 2028 Rankings. I haven't seen a huge sample size of JJ, but I do think he has a really nice feel around the rim as a finisher, rebounder, and shot blocker. He does have some traits that could turn him into a wing down the line, but he will need to improve his perimeter shot and handle to reach his full potential.

Want to boost your ranking?
