2030 Watch List Players With Major Skill

Our <a href="https://prephoops.com/new-england/rankings/2030-rankings/" data-type="link" data-id="https://prephoops.com/new-england/rankings/2030-rankings/">Prep Hoops 2030 New England Watch List</a> was just released! Though there aren't any rankings yet, these are a bunch of guys who could crack our rankings when they eventually come out.   These are 6 of the most skilled guys on the 2030 Watch List.    Gardner is a strong bodied 6-foot forward, but he has an extremely intriguing skillset that I could see growing quite a bit in the coming years. The rising freshman does a great job squaring his body to the rim and setting himself up to go both ways out of his hesitation move. He uses ball and head fakes very effectively, and he has good craft and footwork around the rim, especially for his age and size. Gardner could definitely get minutes for Campbell High School's varsity squad this season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoot up this list if he continues to grow physically and with his outside shooting ability.     Fernandes might be one of the most skilled players in the region regardless of class. It's rare to see someone as comfortable with the ball in his hands as the rising freshman at Trinity Catholic. He has every single dribble move in his bag, can shoot it from three, finishes effectively with both hands, and has excellent passing vision. Height and strength will continue to be the limiting factor for Fernandes, who's only 5-foot-5 and slender, but if the physical tools ever catch up, he's going to be extremely dangerous. Keep an eye on him this season.     Frye is the best shooter on this list, and I don't think it's particularly close. When you consider the speed with which he can get his shot off, his ability to move with and without the ball, and his general attitude and confidence/maturity, there's no better shooter in the 2030 class. Frye is going to play legitimate minutes for a good Rivers team this season, and it's because of his ability to stretch the floor, make sound decisions when the defense collapses, and be a high IQ player—even if he's missing shots, he'll be engaged on the defensive end and will continue to shoot open ones. He's an absolute stud and is going to be DANGEROUS if he continues to grow.     Wilson strikes me as a kid who is just at the beginning of his development. The 6-foot guard really impressed me at the Summer Draft League with his well-rounded offensive skillset. The rising freshman can handle the ball well for his size, has a knack for using his long arms to finish against bigger defenders, and has phenomenal passing vision both in the half court and in transition. The most intriguing thing about his game is that he understands 0.5 basketball and that he shouldn't be over dribbling or holding the ball for too long when it gets swung to him—a rare quality for a freshman. Wilson makes super quick decisions and should be able to help out Lincoln Sudbury's varsity team this season.     Jean-Philippe is one of the most physically-developed guards in this class and has as translatable a game to the ISL as I can think of. The 5-foot-11 guard is undersized, but he's extremely strong and sturdy and will probably enter the rotation as one of Rivers' better perimeter defenders. He has a knack for sliding his feet and beating the defender to the spot, and he can also get steals with his active hands. Offensively, he's a consistent outside shooter despite some odd rotation on his shot, and he can finish at the rim with the best of them. Jean-Philippe is going to shock the ISL with how ready he is to play right away, and I could see him giving scholarship prospects absolute hell on the defensive end.     Fertig reminds me a lot of Fernandes. Like his counterpart, Fertig is undersized at 5-foot-5 but is well beyond his peers when it comes to skill level and IQ. He has a great feel for handling the ball and using stop-and-go and change of direction dribble moves to get bigger defenders off balance, and then he can consistently make floaters and jumpers from everywhere on the court. Fertig won't be able to play for Worcester Academy's top team this winter because of his lack of size, but he's a growth spurt away from being one of the more exciting underclassman prospects in the region.
