In watching some of the games from the Sunflower Showcase, who are some of the top standouts that we saw? Here is our list!

One of the most locked scorers of this month has been the 6'5 bucket getter [player_tooltip player_id='2948828' first='Gaige' last='Navarro'].

I just love the way Gaige works to get to his touch high above the defender using that length to touch in shots from every spot in the halfcourt area. There was a play that really stood out and showed the incredible IQ and feel that Navarro has to set up a scoring possession. He backed his man down in the post and then cut to the ball screen, set the screen clearing his guard, and then released to open up and set up the catch mid-lane, and that catch was high and the ball stayed high for the touched in finish. That defender he backed down was never able to help on the screen, and he was never able to recover in any way and Navarro set that up early.

Gaige is a really smarter screening player, he's an outstanding cutter off the ball, and his slips off the screen are perfect. Then you have the crafty footwork to get away from players with size getting to his touch. Most players defending Navarro just don't have the size and agility combo to defend him. And that is why he averaged 22 points and nine rebounds for the weekend two weeks ago, that is why he had games of 28 points, 32 points and 30 points the past two weekends in July.

One of the best 2028 prospects I have been able to see in the Midwest in any state.

The Hicks shoulder to separate and finish was something that VWBA Elite 16s (playing 17s) opponents will be seeing their sleep. Hicks is a strong and not only does he have the ability to dribble separate, he then gets the leverage edge and then finalizes the deal with the shoulder bump. And once you are off balance, Hicks lifts into the finish over and over again. Sometimes defenders were able to stay close but they were still beat and Hicks was scoring from the foul line. A constant paint finisher.

DeAnthony found ways to score on cuts, on a few second chances, and overall his team won four games in pool B playing up a grade.

We had a look at one of Kade's better games during a big weekend and his dissection of the opposition's defense was a great highlight for a player as we get to the end of the season.

Feldman opened the game going to the rim with craft. There was a touch shot over the top with a high arcing completion, and there was a spin move to get to the other side to score, and an adjustment to finish with the other hand as the help defense got to the ball side. Then Feldman moved to the perimeter when the help defense became more aware, and the threes started to fall. First it was the open three as the defense feared the attack, and then it was quick releasing perimeter finishes moving off the screen, and getting to a quick separation.

A red hot weekend for Kade, and a red weekend for his PGU team going 4-0

Moore is listed at 6'2 but there is good length to him and Moore uses that length well. For SSA White, Moore has been a player that has consistently found ways to be among their regular scoring options and he does it a smart way. Often when we talk about crafty and smooth players, those are players that play with patience, guys that attack the defense when the defense relaxes or gets caught, and that is what we saw from Moore. His jumper has the length over the top, his attacking finish has the length to extend away or over the top, and overall Moore has the ability to be a consistent scoring option for his team.

A high academic student athlete that has a lot on his shoulders when he takes the court with the Padres and Brooks really performs. Brooks totaled 19 points per game this past weekend while leading his team on the glass with 6-7 a game and also doing the playmaking.

A skilled, and determined fighter with the ball that works his way to spots and then finds space to release and score with great body control. One of the toughest players to stop from getting to his mid-range spots, Meier scored straight up on the lift, he faded to make, stepped back to make, and it all came together for one of the best performances of the weekend when Brooks had a 35 point game.

Not just a one on one creator of shots, Brooks is also good moving off the ball to set up shots. Really good moving off the screen to quickly get his feet under him to catch and release.

A point guard that was offered by St. Mary after the weekend, Garcia's ability to get to a clear look and use his touch is what really caught my attention.

Garcia has to be one of the quickest players out of his separation move into his attempt that I have seen. The separation dribble into the lift, the step back into the left, the stop on a dime and lift, it's so quick that the defender has almost no chance unless they have really good length during the recovery. One of the quickest change of directions you will see and as that is incorporated into all parts of the halfcourt game as Croix because an experienced veteran, Garcia will be even tougher to deal with.
