"My 17u season so far has been filled with up and downs," Drew explained. "Our first couple tournaments were rough to say the least. A new team playing together and all, and a new coach that we knew nothing about. Even so much that we lost a couple teammates.

"But as we went on towards the end of July something clicked between us. We started to play together better and play within our talents; playing slower when we needed to making taken our games at our own pace. Overall my 17u season had been a roller coaster where my teammates and I improved heavily throughout our season."

Last weekend SBA won four games and it was a key part of the team's growth, and the growth of Drew. On and off the floor.

"Highlights of this his summer had been not only on the court but off the court. Off the court my team and I had bonded very well making those rough patches of the season be a little easier and when we clicked made it a lot of fun for everyone.

"Probably the biggest highlight on the court my summer season was my last two recruit look tournaments where I played the best I had ever played in the span of two weeks. My first weekends averaging a double-double each game and consistently being a top performer all three days. The next weekend after that I also played really good averaging close to another double-double each game. And getting placed as a top performers for most of my games.

"My last big highlight is definitely getting my first scholarship at the University of Fort Smith Arkansas which is big time for me. Making me a lot more confident in my skills."

For most teams in the area there are one or two weekends of playing remaining. For individual players the goal is finish the summer strong with the team and keep working in the gym What does Drew hope to get from the rest of the summer?

"The rest of the summer I just hope to grind and improve my skills even further like my shot to become more consistent and confident," Hutchinson explained. "And also improve in the areas that I lack in. Overall just form myself into the best basketball player I can be."

Then there is recruiting. The first scholarship was big for Drew.

"The past two years my main prospects have been mainly division two and NAIA but my biggest prospects at the moment are Fort Smith and Friends University. I've done a one visit at Friends. And I plan to take more visits in the future."

And what type of player is Drew? He described himself for us in a frontcourt way!

"I would say (I am) unique because I feel like I've never really played someone who has such a deep presence in the paint and someone that blocks shots like me," Hutchinson explained.
