WLU Team Camp Out of Area Notable Prospects

These were a few prospects from Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia who stood out at West Liberty Team Camp.    Bentley provided an excellent opportunity for evaluation by playing in two games at the camp, and it was interesting to see how his performance evolved. He struggled a bit early in his first game but settled in as the contest progressed and finished on a much stronger note. By the second game, however, he looked like a completely different player and put together a true coming-out performance. Bentley found a plethora of ways to put the ball in the basket, showcasing a versatile offensive arsenal. He connected on a few shots from beyond the arc and, while I would not classify him as a pure sniper, he made enough perimeter shots to keep defenders honest and prevent them from sagging off. His biggest strength offensively is his ability to pressure the defense. Whenever the ball was in his hands, he consistently found ways to get into the paint and force defenses to react. One area I would like to see him continue to develop is playing off two feet more frequently when attacking the basket. entley was equally impressive. He showed great instincts by jumping passing lanes and frequently coming up with steals that created extra possessions for his team.     Frey is the definition of a jack-of-all-trades player who impacts the game in a variety of ways and consistently fills up the stat sheet. While he may not have one singular elite trait, he does a little bit of everything and finds ways to contribute to winning basketball. His versatility allows him to affect the game as a scorer, rebounder, facilitator, and transition threat. Offensively, Frey is effective when getting downhill and attacking the basket. He has a solid frame that allows him to absorb contact and finish through defenders, making him a difficult player to contain once he gains momentum. His aggressiveness also led to trips to the foul line, where he was able to add to his scoring output. He appears to be somewhat between positions, but his all-around skill set allows him to adapt and remain productive regardless of his role. Frey also showed good instincts on the glass, timing his pursuit of rebounds well and putting himself in position to secure possessions for his team. His ability to contribute across multiple categories makes him a valuable piece and the type of player coaches enjoy having on the floor because he impacts the game in so many different ways.     Owens was productive throughout the game, finding a variety of ways to impact the action on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he did a nice job getting to the foul line and scoring around the basket, consistently putting pressure on the defense with his physical style of play. hat stood out was his ability to find different ways to put the ball in the basket. Whether it was finishing through contact, capitalizing on opportunities around the hoop, or using his physical tools to gain an advantage, Owens showed a versatile scoring approach that kept defenders on their heels. His blend of strength and size allowed him to carve out space, establish good positioning, and create high-percentage scoring opportunities near the rim. Defensively, he was active in passing lanes and displayed good anticipation, creating disruption and making life difficult for opposing ball handlers. Owens is also a sneaky athlete whose athleticism shows up in subtle ways throughout the game, whether it is beating opponents to spots, finishing plays in traffic.     Byerly impressed with his passing ability and overall feel for the game. Whether he was operating on the block or playing from the wing, he consistently showed the ability to move the basketball and make the right read. His vision stood out for a player with his size, and he demonstrated an understanding of how to create opportunities for teammates from different areas of the floor. He showed touch around the rim and the athleticism needed to convert plays in traffic. He is also a threat from the dunker spot, where his athletic pop allows him to finish quickly and take advantage of defensive breakdowns. I was impressed with his timing when contesting shots. Moving forward, I would like to see Byerly continue to get stronger physically and develop a more consistent motor. He grabbed a few rebounds, but for a player with his size and tools, I thought he could have been more assertive on the glass and imposed his will more frequently.     Ridgeway found a variety of ways to leave his mark on the game and was one of those players whose impact extended well beyond the box score. He scored from behind the arc, utilized his in-between game effectively, finished around the basket, and earned trips to the foul line. His offensive versatility allowed him to contribute in multiple ways and keep defenses guessing throughout the contest. Ridgeway is the kind of player coaches love because he makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. He competes hard, understands his role, and has no problem sacrificing his body for the good of the team. Whether it is diving for loose balls, taking charges, battling on the glass, or making the extra pass, he consistently does the little things that contribute to success. His toughness, versatility, and feel for the game make him an extremely valuable player, and I would expect small-college programs throughout the region to be knocking on Ridgeway's door. Players who consistently help teams win while impacting multiple facets of the game tend to find their way onto college rosters.     Neel played with tremendous effort throughout the game and consistently found ways to impact winning with his energy and toughness. He has a nose for hustle plays and was constantly looking to keep possessions alive by crashing the glass and battling for loose balls. His willingness to do the dirty work stood out and helped create extra opportunities for his team. Offensively, Neel showed that he can score in a variety of ways. He knocked down a few difficult shots throughout the contest and proved to be a player who cannot be left open from behind the arc, as he is more than capable of making defenses pay from long range. His shooting ability forces defenders to stay attached and opens up other areas of his offensive game. He is an acrobat near the hoop, finding ways to finish difficult attempts from challenging angles and through contact. His knack for putting the ball in the basket was evident throughout the game, as he consistently found ways to generate points when his team needed them.     Anger made his presence felt on both ends of the floor with his consistent activity and willingness to impact the game in a variety of ways. I liked his two-way effort, as he competed hard defensively while also finding opportunities to contribute offensively. His motor allowed him to stay involved in the action and make positive plays throughout the contest. Offensively, he was a threat as an off-ball slasher, showing good instincts moving without the basketball and putting himself in positions to score. He provided valuable depth as a scorer, taking advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves and keeping the defense honest. He consistently made the extra pass and showed a willingness to create opportunities for teammates rather than forcing difficult shots. His ability to make plays for others helped keep the offense flowing and demonstrated a good feel for the game. The combination of his rebounding, off-ball movement, playmaking, and defensive activity allowed him to impact winning in multiple ways. He may not always be the focal point of the offense, but he is the type of player who contributes across the board and helps elevate the play of those around him.
