Standouts from Early Action on Day 2 of the Scott Summer Jam

The Scott Summer Jam in Taylor Mill featured two days of action, with games running throughout the evening. On the second and final day, the opening two matchups saw Beechwood earn a win over Nicholas County, followed by Campbell County defeating Holy Cross (Covington). The players highlighted below are from those two games. Here's a look at the standouts from the early evening action on Day 2 of the Scott Summer Jam:    As expected, Austin drew plenty of defensive attention throughout the game, facing constant physicality and contact whenever he touched the ball. Despite that, he remained composed and continued to make an impact simply through his presence on the floor. His strongest stretch came in the second half, which he opened by knocking down back-to-back contested three-pointers. From there, he shifted into attack mode, repeatedly getting downhill. Even through heavy contact, Austin showed impressive body control, touch, and creativity, finding ways to maneuver around defenders and finish plays.     Dylan put together a highlight-reel performance, showcasing his athleticism with several dunks in both transition and half-court situations, finishing with authority off one and two feet. He also shot the ball extremely well from beyond the arc, knocking down difficult shots while displaying the ability to create his own offense or move effectively without the ball to find open catch-and-shoot opportunities. Beyond his scoring, Dylan looked comfortable handling the ball and showed strong court awareness, consistently making the right reads and finding open teammates. Defensively, he never shied away from a challenge, willingly guarding players inside the paint and on the perimeter while competing hard on every possession. Offensively, he opened the game by knocking down the team's first basket from beyond the arc and continued to make plays throughout the contest. He attacked the basket with purpose, battled through contact in the paint, and was comfortable handling the ball when called upon, giving his team another option as a playmaker. His energy and toughness were evident throughout the game, helping him make an impact in a variety of ways.     Amir returned as one of the most experienced players on this Holy Cross team and played like it throughout the game. He showed solid ball-handling skills, which allowed him to attack off the dribble and get to tough shots even against larger defenders and despite a size disadvantage. He didn't shy away from contact, consistently playing through pressure and physicality. Offensively, he knocked down the first points for the Indians with a corner three despite a defender closing out hard. Defensively, he also made his presence felt at times, making life difficult for opposing guards when they had the ball in their hands.     Though Kingston did make plays that led directly to points, his impact went well beyond the box score. His scoring was versatile, knocking down a three, attacking off the dribble, finishing inside, and creating second-chance opportunities on the offensive glass. He also provided steady defense, holding his own against both opposing big men and skilled guards who could handle the ball. As the Tigers' primary big man, he showed good feel with the ball in his hands and made smart passes to keep the offense moving. In the paint, Kingston battled hard on both ends, consistently competing on the boards and affecting possessions even when he didn't come away with the rebound.     Out of everyone on the list, Noah was the least known name after appearing in just 14 of Holy Cross' 31 games a year ago. As the tallest player on the Indians roster, he had the opportunity to match up against Campbell's long lineup and made the most of it with his effort and competitiveness. While he did not provide a high scoring output, he still converted a few scoring chances around the rim, finishing layups when they were available. More importantly, he competed at a high level defensively and on the glass, using his size and effort to impact possessions and make his presence felt inside.     With Braden's height, he drew a lot of defensive attention, but he handled it well throughout the game. Operating at times with his back to the basket, he often saw quick double teams, and occasionally even three defenders, collapse on him once he touched the ball. In those situations, he either made the right pass out of pressure or used his length, wingspan, and soft touch to finish around the rim. He also showed some comfort putting the ball on the floor and stepping out for a shot or two away from the paint. On the glass, he absorbed plenty of contact but continued to battle and compete for position. He capped off his performance with a putback slam.
