The KABC Bluegrass Shootout brought out dozens of Division I programs to Lexington for an intense live period event. In this article I'll break down my 2029-2030 standouts from the weekend.

Ballard had a lot of success this weekend with one of the deepest and most talented groups in the state and Woods had a big weekend for their team. Woods shoots an extremely high percentage off the catch and his Ballard teammates did a nice job finding him when he was open. Most importantly, Woods played with confidence with the ball in his hands, looking to score first and find an open teammate when that option was taken away. When Woods is at his best it's when he's working off of guys like [player_tooltip player_id='2529549' first='Baron' last='Clay'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2851845' first='Mason' last='Grivna'] and taking shots with his feet set. Woods did that a lot this weekend and that's why he's listed as a standout from the weekend.

I was impressed with Dixon for Henry Clay as they were actually the first game I watched all weekend. Dixon made a handful of jumpers from above the break, stretching the floor off the catch. While Dixon was a stiff slasher, his size and length allowed him to play through contact and finish acrobatically at the rim. Defensively might be where Dixon is the most intriguing as he has the length and foot speed to defend multiple positions and contest shots. Intriguing long term prospect to monitor from Lexington's 2029 class.

Marshall County had a solid showing down in Lexington as they beat some quality teams throughout the weekend. They are successful because they know who their best player is and allow him to create offense for himself and his teammates while also playing physical defense. Burnham helped himself this weekend by keeping it simple offensively and being efficient. Marshall County made a nice run in Rupp Arena last year and have the pieces to make it back this season and go on another run.

Evangel Christian has a lot of young and talented guards and Darko is the most productive of the bunch right now. Darko started the opening game of the weekend with a contested rebound and lefty putback layup. To open the second half, Darko caught fire with three 3-pointers in quick succession as Evangel Christian pulled away from host Henry Clay. Darko's ability to put up points in a hurry is impressive as he has a lot of scoring ability for a rising freshman who has already made his mark at the varsity level.

One of the largest incoming freshman in the country, Carter has set records as a shot putter while also racking up multiple power conference football offers before taking a high school class. On the hardwood, Carter's size is tough to match-up with in the paint and his feet are excellent for a player of his size. On a Boyd County team that wants to space the floor and shoot a lot of 3-pointers, Carter is an excellent change of pace for his team. Watch out for Carter who should stay busy across every season for Boyd County.

Calhoun had his best performance of the weekend in a win over George Rogers Clark as his slashing ability was on full display against the defending state champs. Calhoun played well off two feet and can knock down shots off the catch. A fearless driver, Calhoun wants to get into the teeth of the defense and isn't afraid to go up in traffic over tall defenders. Calhoun already burst onto the varsity scene last season and will be a featured player on a Male team that will be one of the younger groups in Kentucky next season but they have a handful of Division I targets on their team including Calhoun.
