On Friday, I attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute's elite camp at their facility in Worcester, MA. About 50 high school players attended across the 2027-2029 grad years.

They played 1v1, small sided games, and 5v5.

MacPhee impressed me Friday night with his willingness and ability to play a specified role. He didn't necessarily dominate the ball like some of the other top performers at WPI's camp, but he showcased a fundamentally sound offensive game and some high basketball IQ. He has a nice-looking shot from three and does a really good job moving without the ball, but he also drives closeouts effectively and makes simple, on-target passes to teammates when they're available. MacPhee should be a D3 basketball player by the time he graduates high school, and a big spring and summer with NE Elite would definitely help his case.

Brown was probably the best defender I saw at WPI's camp. The 6-foot-2 guard competed every single possession on the defensive end and showcased some pretty special instincts and hands. He slides his feet very well, and he has a knack for beating ball-handlers to the spot and then poking the ball away from them. The Doherty Memorial junior found himself with a TON of fastbreak opportunities as a result of his defensive IQ and hands. Brown did a good job finishing tons of those looks. He'll need to improve his three-point shot if he wants to be a good D3 player, but he has some time to do so.

Rubio sat out for some of the 5v5 and 1v1 parts of Friday night, but he was extremely impressive when he did play. He has nice stop-and-go moves and a knack for finishing at the rim with a number of crafty floaters and wrong-footed shots—he had a really nice Smitty on the baseline in his 5v5 stint. Rubio can also shoot from the outside, though he has some weird rotation on the basketball. He needs to continue to improve his motor, but the 1k high school scorer definitely has what it takes to play D3 ball talent wise.

If [player_tooltip player_id='2711384' first='Hezaki' last='Brown'] was the best defender on Friday night, Apollon was probably the second best. The 6-foot-1 guard has really solid athleticism and strength and has the drive to compete on that end consistently. He had tons of steals for layups and even showcased the ability to hit some midrange jumpers in the halfcourt. He's somewhat raw offensively in terms of his ability to create for himself and others, but he's ready to play at the D3 level defensively, so perhaps he can find a fit in a couple years.

Williams was probably the most impressive player of the second team, and he was tough to leave off the first team. The 6-foot-3 guard showcased some beautiful shooting ability from three, hitting shots on the move and off the dribble fairly consistently. But he also drove closeouts and finished above the rim. The lefty has a nice feel for the game and good passing vision, so he'll fit well in any offensive system. When the time comes, I would be surprised if Williams isn't a mid to high level D3 player.
