Super Sophomores: Summer's Shining Stars

If they aren't already, expect Division-I programs to begin tracking Amare Medhin closely in the near future. The long lead guard already plays with the confidence and scoring polish of an upperclassman. Fresh off earning Class 2A Freshman of the Year and Best Scorer honors, Medhin continues carrying that momentum into the travel season where he looks every bit like one of the brightest young offensive weapons in Georgia.   At 6-foot-4, Amare brings outstanding size to the point guard position along with effortless shot-making ability. What stands out immediately is how relaxed and under control he remains offensively. He almost lulls defenders to sleep with his slow-paced rhythm bringing the ball up the floor before suddenly pulling from well beyond the arc. Medhin thrives operating over high ball screens where defenders struggle containing his deep shooting range. His release is smooth and effortless, and the ball leaves his hands with supreme confidence. Even when he gets hot from three-point range, nothing about his game feels forced or rushed. He lets the offense naturally come to him.   While the perimeter scoring grabs most of the attention, Amare is far more than a jump shooter. He changes gears well off the bounce and uses shifty hesitation moves to get downhill where his explosiveness shines. Once he turns the corner, he finishes above the rim with authority and has the body control to navigate traffic in the lane. He also continues making quality reads as a distributor, proving capable of creating offense for teammates while defenses load up to stop him.   Defensively, Medhin's length gives him major upside. He covers ground quickly, disrupts passing lanes and has the physical tools to become a strong two-way guard. High-level scorers with his size, feel and effortless confidence don't stay under the radar long. Amare already looks like one of the premier young guards in the state and his ceiling continues climbing.     Allen is the type of scorer capable of completely changing the momentum of a game once he catches rhythm. The Northside-Warner Robins guard is a confident high-volume shooter who never hesitates letting it fly from the perimeter. When Kingston heats up, defenders quickly find themselves scrambling because his stroke looks clean and repeatable from deep, especially on the right wing where he appears most comfortable.   Allen thrives as a perimeter scorer but also flashes crafty finishing ability once defenders overplay his jumper. He attacks closeouts with slippery drives and shows touch around the basket finishing with scoop layups and floaters in traffic. His offensive instincts stand out because he naturally hunts scoring opportunities and stays aggressive regardless of whether shots fall early.   Defensively, Allen uses his length and activity to contribute on the other end as well. He stays engaged in passing lanes and competes around the rim despite being known primarily for his offense. As his consistency continues improving, Kingston has the natural scoring ability to become a major offensive weapon at Northside over the next few seasons.     Flint is wired to score. The Cedar Shoals guard attacks defenses with an aggressive mentality and constantly looks to break defenders down off the bounce. Damon plays downhill and embraces contact, putting pressure on defenses every time he gets a step entering the paint. His confidence attacking the rim stands out immediately because he rarely backs away from physical finishes in traffic.   At times, the ball sticks because Flint believes in his ability to create offense, but when he strings together the right dribble combinations he becomes extremely difficult to contain. He changes direction well and has a knack for getting defenders off balance before exploding into driving lanes. Once inside, Damon finishes through bumps and absorbs contact better than most guards his age.   While his best offense currently comes attacking the basket, Flint mixes in enough perimeter shooting to keep defenders honest. Opponents can't simply sag into the paint because he's willing to rise confidently from outside. If his range continues extending consistently to the three-point line, his offensive ceiling jumps significantly. Damon already possesses the aggressive scoring mentality coaches can't teach, and as his efficiency and outside touch improve, he could become a dangerous offensive guard.     Johnson flips a switch once he senses momentum shifting. The Sandy Creek guard plays with fearless aggressiveness and attacks the game like every possession matters. When Team Bo Bell needs energy, Dylan provides it with his athleticism, downhill pressure and refuse-to-lose mentality. He plays with urgency and has the type of attacking mindset capable of igniting an entire team.   Johnson is explosive off the bounce and consistently blows by defenders in space. Once he gets downhill, he becomes a heat-seeking missile attacking the rim with speed and confidence. Defenders struggle keeping him in front because of how quickly he changes gears. His ability to collapse defenses opens up scoring opportunities both for himself and teammates.   What makes Dylan especially dangerous is his ability to score from all three levels. He gets to the basket at will, pulls up comfortably from the mid-range and confidently knocks down perimeter jumpers when defenders sag off. Once he sees a few shots fall, his confidence skyrockets and he begins hunting momentum-changing plays.   Beyond the scoring, Johnson's competitiveness jumps off the floor. He embraces pressure moments and plays with visible emotion and toughness. That takeover mentality combined with his athletic burst makes him one of the more exciting young guards to watch when he gets rolling offensively.     Little lefty plays with moxie. Prak is easy to overlook at first glance because of his size, but once the ball tips, his toughness and skill immediately stand out. The undersized point guard plays fearlessly and consistently finds ways to impact the game with his playmaking and craftiness.   Mason sees the floor extremely well and does a great job threading passes through traffic. The glasses-wearing guard whistles assists to teammates and understands how to manipulate defenders with his tight handle. He changes direction smoothly and creates driving lanes by keeping defenders guessing off the bounce. Once he gets into the paint, Prak thrives as a drive-and-dish creator who keeps defenses rotating.   He also flashes touch as a scorer. Mason uses floaters effectively over size and shows impressive finishing ability around the basket with either hand. His ambidextrous touch makes it difficult to determine his dominant hand because he looks comfortable finishing from awkward angles on both sides of the rim.   Buried in a crowded Morrow backcourt, Prak may need patience before earning major minutes, but his long-term outlook remains encouraging. Guards with his feel, toughness and creativity often continue improving steadily over time. If he keeps developing physically and sharpening his skillset, Mason absolutely has the chance to become a valuable rotational guard and potential late bloomer.     Crane earned substantial varsity minutes as a freshman because of how poised and physical he plays. The Lovett guard competes with strength and toughness, using his sturdy frame to create advantages attacking downhill. Benny gets low turning corners and consistently slips his shoulders past defenders once he gains momentum entering the lane.   Driving the basketball is one of Crane's biggest strengths. He plays off two feet effectively and absorbs contact well around the basket, allowing him to finish through traffic against bigger defenders. His balance and control stand out because he rarely looks sped up once he enters the paint.   Crane also shows legitimate scoring touch from the perimeter. He comfortably knocks down catch-and-shoot threes and mixes in turnaround jumpers from the lane area. Defenders can't simply crowd his drives because he's capable of making them pay from outside.   What impresses most is Benny's maturity and confidence as a young guard already contributing meaningful varsity minutes. His combination of toughness, shooting and downhill pressure should continue making him an important piece at Lovett moving forward.     Alexander passes the eye-test immediately. Standing 6-foot-5 with length, athleticism and physical tools, the Creekside wing already looks the part of a high-upside prospect. Tim impacts games with his motor and versatility while continuing to expand his offensive skillset.   As a freshman, Alexander establishes himself as an athletic forward capable of creating mismatches around the basket. He attacks the offensive glass aggressively and uses his strength and length effectively inside 15 feet. Tim finishes well around the rim and continues showing flashes of physical dominance against smaller defenders.   The biggest development comes with his jump shot. While perimeter shooting isn't yet a major part of his arsenal, Alexander shoots the ball with increasing confidence throughout the summer. As that outside consistency grows, his offensive ceiling rises considerably because defenders already struggle matching his athleticism and physical profile.   Defensively, Tim projects with massive upside. His length, mobility and athleticism give him the potential to defend virtually every position on the floor. He covers ground quickly, protects the rim from the weak side and rebounds effectively in traffic. If the offensive skillset continues catching up to the physical tools, Alexander could make a major leap during his sophomore season.     Araujo continues building buzz as one of the more intriguing young two-way guards in Georgia. The wiry playmaker possesses length, creativity and confidence with the ball in his hands. King thrives creating offense off the dribble and consistently looks comfortable operating in pressure moments.   Offensively, Araujo shines with his ability to create separation. He's slippery with the basketball, shaking defenders to reach his spots in the mid-range while also confidently pulling from deep. His handle remains smooth and controlled, allowing him to change pace and manipulate defenders in space. When King gets rolling offensively, he becomes difficult to contain because he scores from multiple levels.   What makes him especially intriguing is the long-term two-way upside. His wingspan immediately stands out defensively as he disrupts passing lanes and bothers ball handlers with his reach. Even without adding significant muscle yet, he already impacts the game defensively through activity and length.   As Araujo continues getting stronger physically, his ability to finish through contact downhill should improve dramatically. The framework is already there for a highly impactful guard. With his size, scoring instincts and defensive upside, it's easy to understand why Division-I programs already monitor him closely.
