Great Lakes Finals: Scotty B’s Top 2029 Illinois Prospects

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>***Use Code “ScottyB30” for 30% off your subscription***</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Great Lakes Finals were in full swing over the weekend as we had our full Prep Hoops Illinois staff at the event!&nbsp; Here I examine some of the top prospects that I evaluated at Wintrust in <strong>Great Lakes Finals: Scotty B's Top Illinois 2029 Prospects</strong>!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2675420' first='Quinn' last='Carroll'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2078448' first='Illinois' last='Wolves'])</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lyons shooting guard projects early on as one of the more skilled players in the class.  Did not get much tick at the varsity level lasts year, but we loved what he showed at the Freshman Showcase last August and he continues to get better.  Plus shooter from beyond the arc who has tremendous shot prep knocking down an array of three point shots.  Has skilled ball handling scoring off the bounce for slick layups and cuts off the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2940657' first='Duece' last='Johnson'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2078448' first='Illinois' last='Wolves'])</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Marist combo guard has a very bright future.  Plus athlete who creates off the bounce getting to the cup for acrobatic layups with his excellent body control.  Reverse layups and athleticism at the rim.  Burst on his first step.  Mixed in some pull up threes.  Showed some passing feel as well.  Should be a key piece in the next group of Marist basketball following the graduation of the majority of their state title team.<br><br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2369925' first='Evan' last='Lemons'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2078448' first='Illinois' last='Wolves'])</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lemons was a spark this past season coming off the bench for St. Laurence bringing a youthful energy along with plus athleticism to the table.&nbsp; For the Wolves he was aggressive against a talented Phenom squad attacking off the bounce with quick takes, pressing the issue in the open floor with his speed, and played above the rim in transition.&nbsp; Mixed in some nice passing including a sick skip pass and has significant upside on the defensive end guarding multiple perimeter spots.&nbsp; Had an impressive swat of one jumper.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Zyler Mason ([program_tooltip program_id='2078448' first='Illinois' last='Wolves'])</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There are several talented post prospects in the 2029 class and this 6'7” big man needs to be in that conversation.&nbsp; Long and lanky center will need to add significant strength, but all the tools are there!&nbsp; He is a quality rim protector with timing and anticipation on the defensive end.&nbsp; Gets on the offensive glass for second chance points.&nbsp; Had a couple nice dunks, can deck it on occasion, and passes very well for his size.&nbsp; The skill potential along with defensive upside make him extremely intriguing as a long term developmental prospect in 2029!<br><br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>John Starks (Zero Fears)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Starks is not related to the former Knicks star, but he is a guard who brings toughness to the table as the Homewood Flossmoor standout is a bucket getter at 5'9”.&nbsp; Shifty off the dribble with his handles getting wherever he wants with spin moves for nifty finishes.&nbsp; Solid pull up jump shooter in the mid-range that can get hot from three at times.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Logan Redditt (Zero Fears)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Redditt is a Plainfield East 5'11” point guard that had a nice showing for Zero Fears.&nbsp; Baseline jumpers along with attacking the cup for a plethora of acrobatic layups.&nbsp; Name to watch moving forward!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3472210' first='Kierre' last='Brooks'] (Zero Fears)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Leo wing that brings 3 and D potential long term.&nbsp; Shot it well off the catch pouring in several threes and has the athleticism to defend across the perimeter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Zuri Burgess (FVV)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Burgess is a shooting guard out of Hononegah that can really shoot the rock from beyond the arc.&nbsp; He is a shooting specialist who lets it fly off the catch as he poured in four of them in their Friday night contest.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
