I attended the annual Prep Hoops AZ Bash in the Desert at the Phhacility in Phx May 1-3. I viewed nearly every team in the 17U division and came up with nine all-17U Teams.

Here is the 4th team

[player_tooltip player_id='3028449' first='Isaiah' last='Akwue'] Sequoia National (Sequoia National 17) (Pictured)

A power forward who has a nice inside and out game. He had some rim rattling dunks way above the rim effortlessly with plus body control. He will score with right hand hook shots, rip thru as he keeps the ball high and then face up from mid to the three point line. He is a sneaky good passer with either hand and rebounds plus block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2276245' first='Nizir' last='Cannady'] AZ Compass Prep (UH Elite 17 Gold)

A quick on quick scoring point guard is tougher then most his size. He can score it with mid-range pull-ups, hit the occasional three, he gets to the basket and will score with and-1 takes. His first step is dynamic and finishes in the lane or will hesitate to get downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407206' first='Cameron' last='Hurt'] Pinnacle ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 17 Rise)

A scoring point guard who is a quick on-ball defender and passer too. He will advance pass that lead to scores and will collect steals and block shots. He scores with threes off the catch, euro steps as he will go slow to fast, blow by's with his left or right hand and puts pressure on the opposing team as he is often in attack mode, He interestingly enough loves using his left hand.

[player_tooltip player_id='2291972' first='Andrew' last='Marquez'] Campo Verde (BC Hoops 17)

An undersized combo guard is a two-way player. He has quick hands to collect steals and plays an unselfish game. He can also score it as the lefty has a strap from the three point line as he will rattle them quickly with a nice shooting stroke. He can get a step on his defender and made clutch free throws in a one possession game.

[player_tooltip player_id='3625584' first='John' last='Karstadt'] Highland (East Valley Select 17)

A newcomer for me is a combo guard who will play the passing lanes to collect steals. He is a very good decision maker and scorer. He has a deceptively quick first step to get a step on the defender to the basket and he can shoot the three with ease with pull-ups or off the catch.

Collin Roberts 6'3 SG 2026 Douglas/WY (Morgan Dawgs Elite 17)

A thicker framed scoring guard is a natural bucket getter. He will catch and shoot it from the three point line as he squares up like you should and gets the ball out of his hands quickly. He will also score with cuts off the ball and he can get downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407205' first='Ja'Mir' last='Smith'] Chandler ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 17 Rise)

A hyper athletic power forward was one of the rop rebounders I viewed on the weekend. He can take the ball off the glass and then go coast to coast. He is a way above the rim dunker with impressive twitch and quick springs. He will rip thru to score and even step out and shoot the three. He will also swat balls away in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1720212' first='Ladell' last='White Jr'] Phhoenix Prep ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 17 Rise)

A powerfully built pure point guard was diming teammates all game long. He often touches the paint with his tighter handle and finds a teammate perfectly in stride. He will always get downhill and can take body shots and score thru the contact with his college-like frame and burst of speed.
