I attended the annual Prep Hoops AZ Bash in the Desert at the Phhacility in Phx May 1-3. I viewed nearly every team in the 17U division and came up with nine all-17U Teams.

Here is the 7th team

[player_tooltip player_id='3625588' first='Diego' last='Aflague-Ortiz'] Willow Canyon (Foundation First 17 James)

A newcomer for me is a decent sized combo guard who can score and defend. The lefty can score it with threes off the catch with a nice looking stroke and he has good feel and a huge IQ to make a play. He will collect steals and throws the dime to a teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='1986797' first='Jase' last='Benjamin'] San Tan Charter (UH Elite 17 Gold)

A strong framed wing forward is slowly playing like a point forward with plus court vision as he can burst down the lane with his tighter handle and make the read for the assist. He can get on the glass to score, hit the three and defend almost every position on the floor.

Isaiah Carter SF 6'4 2026 La Joya (AZ Spartans 17) (Pictured)

A long and lean wing forward is a plus rebounder for his size and will score and defend. He is a long strider who takes very few steps to get to the basket, he will hit shots from mid-range, hit the three off the catch and collect steals that can lead to dunks on the break. Once he fills in, he will be even harder to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='3148725' first='Marvin' last='Dobine Jr'] Westview (AZ Storm 17)

A strong power forward is a little undersized but has plus length with stronger hands and good girth to bang with players bigger then him. He score with inside takes thru the contact, he will run the floor for transition buckets and face-up to the three point line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407207' first='Malachi' last='Mims'] Pinnacle (AZ Storm 17)

A true combo guard with toughness, court vision and skill. He will score it with threes off the catch and mid-range jumpers plus get to the basket and will drive and kick it. He has quick feet and hands to defend and should be a big piece his senior season for the Pioneers.

Nick Reber CG 6'3 2026 Highland (UH Elite 17 Gold)

A physical framed scoring combo guard is a rare one that is classing up. He will score with tough downhill takes using his build and handle to carve out space and score thru the contact. He can rattle in threes but loves to hesitate and get a step on his defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295697' first='Chase' last='Swenson'] Chaparral (Foundation First 17 James)

A decent sized point guard is wired to score. He takes care of the ball but he will fill it up with catch and shoot triples, cuts off the ball and plays the game with a big IQ to know when to attack or make a play for others. He will have a big year in Scottsdale.

[player_tooltip player_id='2297437' first='Dylan' last='Vargas'] San Tan Charter (UH Elite 17 Gold)

A two-way power forward will score and defend. He can defend post players and then uniquely switch onto point guards moving extremely well in space. He will rebound at a good rate and block shots. He will also score with offensive rebound put backs and will hit the three off the catch.
