I attended the annual Prep Hoops AZ Bash in the Desert at the Phhacility in Phx May 1-3.

I viewed nearly every team in the 17U division but also saw some 15 and 16U teams. And here were some of the top point guards.

15-16U Standout PG's

[player_tooltip player_id='2878042' first='Davon' last='Darby'] Red Mountain (UH Elite 16)

An old school pure point guard is undersized but has true speed and a super tight handle. He makes live dribble passes look easy and will often thread the needle. He racked up easily 5+ assists in the game I viewed but can also score with bursts down the lane and get to the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2477281' first='DJ' last='Hunter'] Somerset Losee/NV (Vegas Elite 15 EYBL)

Arguably the top true point guard in the 16U division made it look easy and makes bail out or live dribble passes better than most with either hand. He has a dynamic first step and can get a step on a defender to the basket. He can shoot it with mid-range pull-ups with plus elevation and catch threes with good ball rotation. He will also grab a rebound and take it coast to coast with his breakneck speed.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552782' first='Jaiden' last='Hong'] Chaparral (AZ Storm 16)

A tough undersized point guard will facilitate and score. He often drives and kicks it and will throw players open up the court. He will score with threes off the catch with an easy stroke and a quicker release plus pull-up from mid-range. He also plays tough on the ball defensively and brings energy to the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506439' first='Marcus' last='Llamas'] Sahuaro (Tucson Spartans 16 Rise)

An undersized scoring point guard is the younger brother of one of the best scorers in Tucson the last four years. He will score it easily with mid-range jumpers, deep threes off the pull or catch and tear drops in the lane over the post players. He is very quick and keeps his opponent in front of him on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2886382' first='Brandon' last='Morris'] Pinnacle ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 15 Rise)

One of the top 2029 point guards locally who can control a game, score and make plays for others is Morris. He has a very tight handle and he is one of those players who always just seems to make winning plays. He score with off the dribble threes, quick burst dribble drives with and-1's in the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id='2506549' first='Sebastian' last='Ondoua'] St. Mary's (AZ Legacy 16 3SGB) (Pictured)

One of the top scoring point guards that I viewed playing up on 16U was Sebastian. He scored a cool 28 points from all levels. He has sneaky athleticism to dunk it at his size, he is quick as a hiccup to get downhill, he will pull-up from the three off the catch and has a tough mid-range jumper. He is simply just hard to stay in front of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='2854671' first='Jonathan' last='Ortiz'] Deer Valley ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 15 Rise)

A scoring point guard is one of the most prolific shooters I viewed in the 15U division. He has a compact repeated release that looks good every attempt. He also comes with deep range and a quick trigger. He will get a step on his defender and score it with advanced body control and reverse layups.
