DJ Hunter DJ Hunter 5'9" | PG Somerset Losee | 2029 State NV is back in the No. 1 spot, and ESPN has also recognized him as one of the top guards in the class of 2029, most recently ranking him as the No. 5 point guard in the country. He is easily one of the most entertaining prospects in the state, and he has the skill to back it up. Hunter routinely carves up defenses and puts opponents on skates. He also uses his motor to wreak havoc and force turnovers. Considering his overall talent, he’ll be someone opposing teams must game-plan for night in and night out this season.

DJ had defenders on skates throughout the weekend. He was getting downhill with ease, and consistently made difficult lay-ups. He also showed off his facilitating skills, making perfect last second drop off passes to his forwards. While also finding his shooters on the wings and corners for quality chances. Hunter was also living at the free throw line, where he converted on a majority of his attempts. On top of all that, he had the one of the best shots of the weekend from a Nevada prospect. Hitting the game winning 3 at the buzzer against Oakland (CA). All in all, he truly impressed and came up in the clutch for Losee.

Quick, shifty guard that applied constant pressure getting to the basket, showing the ability to change speeds and get by defenders in a hurry. Absorbed contact well for his size and stayed controlled finishing in traffic. Showed a really good handle with the ball in his hands, creating space and keeping defenders off balance. Displayed good vision in the open court, consistently finding teammates in transition and making the right reads on the move. Also shot the three ball well and showed comfort getting to the pull-up mid-range, able to stop on a dime and rise confidently into jumpers.

His speed is one of his top attributes, and he uses it to get paint touches at a high rate. He’ll drive and kick if defenders close in, or get all the way to the rack when there’s an opportunity. In addition to his drives, he knocked down 3s, and his mid-range jumper looked smooth. All in all, the PG played well, and I like how he stays locked in.

The gritty PG helped lead the Lions to the playoffs and was effective on both ends of the court. On offense, he consistently turned on the jets to blow by defenders. He also splashed in 3-pointers and utilized his deceleration to open up his mid-range jumper. On the defensive end, Hunter stayed in position and covered ground at a rapid rate, allowing him to frustrate his matchup and get in passing lanes for deflections and steals.

While Hunter is just a freshman, he’s earned his spot on this list by competing fiercely and helping lead the Lions to a winning season. He is a constant scoring threat on the offensive end, and his quickness gives him a clear advantage against even the most disciplined defenders. His confidence further separates him, as he wants the ball when the lights are brightest. Hunter is also a disruptive playmaker on defense, capable of picking his opponent’s pocket when they get careless.

Currently, he’s averaging 20.8 points per game, which ranks 10th in the state.

He was accelerating through and around defenders. Finding ways to get all the way to the cup. And making the Longhorns pay at the line when fouled. Hunter then buried a three just before time expired, but it wasn’t enough, as the Lions fell 75–74. Still, it was a highly competitive finish from the crafty guard who finished with 28 points on the night.

Giving him 7 of the Lions 14 points in the first quarter. The Wildcat defenders then began to pressure him a bit more, but he still had some success getting to the rack. He had 2 really nice left hand finishes, and a couple smooth stepback J’s that completely shook defenders. Despite the loss, the freshman had more than a few “wow” moments.
