LADERA RANCH — Session 1 of the adidas-led 3SSB circuit tipped off last Friday morning with some of the top prospects from around the country making their way to OGP Ladera for the three-day event. We got our eyes on a number of nationally-ranked prospects and some unranked players who could see their names in the Top 150 at some point within the next year. In this piece we pick our Second Team All Session 1 performers at the 17u level.

*Important Notes: To keep it California-centric, each All-Session 1 team will contain at least ONE player from the state. The selections are based on the ability for the five-man squad to be able to function together on the floor. Team record and individual statistics are equally considered for selection.

G: Nasir Anderson | 2027 | Atlanta Celtics

Anderson opened up the weekend with a 16-point, 13-rebound and 10-assist performance in a win over Mass Rivals and continued flirting with triple-doubles for the rest of the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 200-plus pound left-handed point guard is one of the more interesting lead guards in the country due to his combination of strength, physicality and body type mixed with his shiftiness and fluidity off the bounce. Anderson is a walking paint touch whose playmaking and passing IQ continues to grow with each game. Anderson averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game.

G: Geren Holmes | 2027 | Team Loaded South

Holmes impressed with his jump shooting ability and fearlessness as a scorer off the dribble. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard had his three-point shot dialed in all weekend long and was the primary source of offense for Team Loaded South in just about every game they played. Even when defenses loaded up to stop him, Holmes managed to make a difficult shot look easy and was efficient at getting to his spots to elevate and score. Holmes scored 33 of his team's 51 points in a win over Team Lillard on Day 2 and averaged 24.3 points for the event.

G/W: [player_tooltip player_id='2531981' first='Cole' last='Kelly'] | 2028 | [program_tooltip program_id='2076459' first='Breakaway' last=''] Basketball

Kelly is best described as a do-it-all “basketball player” who just understands the intricacies and nuances of the game and uses them to his advantage. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard/wing isn't the most fleet of foot or vertically explosive guy in the gym but his elite three-level shot-making feel makes up for any lack of quick-twitch athleticism. Kelly was pouring in perimeter jumper off the catch and off the bounce, used his strength to create space from defenders and his footwork to create scoring angles around the rim. Kelly averaged 18.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and shot 43 percent from distance as [program_tooltip program_id='2076459' first='Breakaway' last=''] went 3-1 on the weekend.

F/C: [player_tooltip player_id='2965868' first='Yann' last='Kamagate'] | 2028 | Compton Magic

Kamagate was as physically and athletically dominant of a player there was on the weekend and it resulted in a commanding and productive presence on both ends of the floor. The 7-foot sophomore, who did not play this season at St. Francis is as quick of a leaper as we've seen in the region in the last decade and his approach to finishing around the rim is to dunk everything with force. Kamagate's most impactful skill is his rim protection. He deters drives to the paint, pins layups off the glass and blocked numerous three-point shots on the weekend. Kamagate put up 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as Compton Magic went 4-0.

C: Kamsi Awaka | 2027 | New Heights

Awaka is a traditional, back-to-the-basket five-man who has an uncanny combination of footwork and soft hands for a player his size. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound junior is a bruiser inside whose post feel and touch allow him to be a scoring hub on the block. Awaka is also a physical interior defender whose size and strength made it difficult for opposing bigs to seal position, while his quick feet and verticality made him one of the best shot blockers of the session. Awaka's throwback style was effective in helping New Heights go 4-0 on the weekend. He averaged 9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.
