On Saturday April 12th I attended the Nothing but Net Spring Showcase at Sunnyslope HS hosted by Dinos Trigonis. It was a unique event with club and prep teams playing each other making it a rare live period for college coaches to come view the talent.

I spent all day watching the teams on the main court plus one half in the auxiliary gym. These are not prospect rankings. Just how did they do for the 1-2 games I viewed them.

1st Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2432574' first='Terrance' last='Byrd'] Sandra Day O'Connor ([program_tooltip program_id='2076421' first='Factory' last='AZ'] 17 P32)

A bigger wing forward with length, athleticism and a top end handle. He can get into the teeth of a defense and make a play or get downhill and score with dunks. off balanced shots in traffic, polished floaters and even step out and shoot the three. He rebounds the ball well and will push it up the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533594' first='CJ' last='Johnson'] Desert Edge (Compton Magic 15)

An athletic scoring point guard made some next level plays with bail out dimes and advanced passes. He will score it from all levels with threes off the catch, and-1's in traffic after a burst of speed and just a shot maker near traffic. He also showed his ability to defend on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='3354402' first='Jalen' last='Knighton'] Arcadia ([program_tooltip program_id='2867224' first='Phoenix' last='United'] 15) (Pictured)

A scoring lead guard is that baby face assassin type. He will fill up the scoreboard with tough crossovers into contested layups in traffic, off the glass inside buckets and rattle in threes off the catch or pull-up. He made multiple clutch shots when needed and his best basketball is clearly ahead of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386977' first='Kyle' last='Speed Jr'] Gilbert ([program_tooltip program_id='2867224' first='Phoenix' last='United'] 16)

A wing forward with an off the charts motor. He loves eating on the glass with quick second and third jumps to rebound and score on put backs. He will euro step down the lane and kiss shots off the glass with tough fall aways. He can also hit the three off the catch and bring endless energy to the team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1834123' first='Mayom' last='Mayom'] Bella Vista Prep (Arizona Unity 17 EYBL)

A tall, long and lean wing forward is your classic 3 and D type. He is an out of area rebounder with his supreme bounce and reach. He will also block shots at its highest point, as he had one above the box impressively. He will score with triples and alley-oops. He is also a sneaky good passer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2345479' first='Milton' last='Phinnessee III'] Liberty ([program_tooltip program_id='2076421' first='Factory' last='AZ'] 17 P32)

The big man showed off some glimpses of what he can be down the road. He scored it with his back to the basket with hook shots, put backs off the glass with his great size and seven-foot plus wingspan and handled contact well. He cashed in on his free throws and is due for a big year next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1555180' first='Delton' last='Prescott III'] Sunnyslope ([program_tooltip program_id='2271105' first='Arizona' last='Unity EYBL'])

The top pure point guard locally leads the EYBL team flawlessly. He has the ball on a string and knows when to make players around him better or score. He will make his potent mid-range jumper, which is nearly impossible to defend, hit the three and hesitate to get to the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='3240966' first='Amadou' last='Seini'] Bella Vista Prep CIA Supreme

A massive human being is nearly impossible to move. His sheer strength and size with length are hard to ignore. He has made tremendous strides since his arrival into AZ. He scores it with right or left hand hook shots, powerful dunks and will occasionally step out and shoot it from mid-range. He grabs every rebound near him and he can become an elite shot blocker.

[player_tooltip player_id='1555179' first='Darius' last='Wabbington'] Sunnyslope (Compton Magic 17)

One of the most skilled and cerebral big men in the state or the entire West Coast. He scores it with jab step threes, pull-ups from mid-range, hook shots, dunks off the glass and rebounds the ball well with his soft hands. What actually stood out though was his next level passing skills. Not many are better at his position than Darius at passing.
