The MIAA season has come to a close, and it's time to reflect on some guys who had big years. Over the next few days, I'll be releasing my All-MIAA first, second, and third teams. There are, of course, hundreds of relevant MIAA teams and players, so it's tough to figure out who deserves recognition. I will of course take season-long stats into consideration, but I'll be weighing playoff performances more than regular season, and I'll also pay key attention to the difficulty of competition that teams/players face.

Cote is one of the most underrated players in MIAA hoops, mostly because he plays for a Wareham team that doesn't get too much press around the state. The 6-foot lefty is extremely quick and shifty with the ball, and he has a herky-jerk nature to his handle that makes him extremely difficult to guard. He can hit shots from three, but he also has long strides and finishes well at the rim. Cote will have college options next season if he wants, but he definitely might decide to do a post-grad year, which I could see massively raising his stock.

Though Andover ran into Bishop Feehan in the final four of the tournament, Roux's year needs recognition. He was Andover's best shooter and scorer this season, but he did an amazing job picking his spots and playing within a system that gave his teammates tons of confidence and reps. He has one of the purest shot releases in the state, and he really knows how to bend the defense both with and without the ball. Roux's game will translate wonderfully to the next level, but he still has another year at Andover and should be a star in the MIAA again next season if he chooses to stay there.

Farrell was a steadying force all year for Masco, and he played his best basketball towards the end of the season, so he deserves a spot on the first team. The 6-foot-2 scoring guard is unbelievable in the mid-range and consistently gets to his spots at the elbow via a quick first step, but he can also finish at the rim more effectively than many guards in the MIAA. When multiple defenders converge on him, he's shown that he can make smart kick out passes to teammates, and I also think he's an underrated defender and athlete. Farrell should get looks at the high D3 level—his game will translate wonderfully there.

Mutschler, like Cote, probably doesn't get the recognition he deserves because of the fact that he doesn't necessarily play for a team that plays the highest level of competition. But when it came to tournament time, the 6-foot-5 wing was the best player on the court on both ends. His athleticism, size, strength, and toughness allows him to guard anyone on the court, and he goes after every rebound on both ends. But he can also score in the paint with really solid touch and finesse. Mutschler strikes me as a relatively high D3 player who could get a lot better playing at a higher level.

Nimaka is one of the better athletes in the entire MIAA and dominated the handful of Malden Catholic games I watched this season. He might not have the stats to back up a second-team placement, but the eye test suggests that he was playing on a different level than most of his peers. The 6-foot-3 Wheaton commit is a high-flyer at the rim and does a great job taking contact in the air, so he's effective in transition and on second-side attacks. Nimaka's shooting stroke is also decent, and he has a motor that allows him to relentlessly attack the rim all game. Excited to see how he plays next season.
