These two teams looked much different from the way they did when I saw them against SCHSL competition earlier this season, and many believed that these were, in fact, the two best teams in the class. One of the reasons why the Eagles looked different was the return of [player_tooltip player_id='1806931' first='Isaiah' last='Scott-Palacios'] from his knee injury. They looked to get him going early by designed actions to get him involved, but the Warriors were also effective by getting buckets on their first three possessions. The theme of this game was also clearly defined early: the star players would matter more than depth. Although there were many role players who stepped up throughout the game, such as Bryson Dixon and John-David Keel, Spartanburg Christian took an 11-point lead to the locker room because [player_tooltip player_id='2776169' first='Eli' last='Campbell'] was slightly better than [player_tooltip player_id='1806908' first='Ty' last='Kennedy']. That would flip in the third quarter as Kennedy got going and [player_tooltip player_id='3528157' first='Lake' last='Wagner'] cooled off. In the second half and overtime, there were only 9 points scored by anyone outside of each team's dynamic duo. Fast forward to the first overtime, and Greenwood Christian was called for two bench technicals as they had players enter the floor on multiple occasions over the last two seconds of game time. Thanks to Campbell going perfect on four high-pressure free throws, the Warriors were able to do the impossible and force a second overtime. Then, with 4.4 seconds remaining in the second overtime, an injury to a free-throw shooter forced Spartanburg Christian Head Coach Ben Johnson to turn to Luke Davis, who had not played at all in the game. But Davis was as cool as they come and hit both freebies to once again tie the game and send us to a third overtime. Dixon stepped up big time in the final period for the Eagles, and they were able to piece together enough stops down the stretch to come out the Champions of SCISA Class 3A.
