Our staff is prioritizing making it out to MPSSAA Regional games this week to provide coverage of the local public school leagues as there is a ton of untapped talent to shine a light on throughout the region. We'll start by covering some of the top frontcourt prospects that we saw this week, ranging in skillset from perimeter-oriented wing tweeners to physical scorers on the low block. Let's dive in!

27p 15r 1a vs Richard Montgomery

One of the more dominant physical performances of the year as the unsigned senior wing bullied his way to the rim, hit jumpers off the catch, and served as a connector in the halfcourt. Wright routinely got past his man with long strides to the rim and runners off the window from both sides of the basket, scoring with either hand. Liked the way that he kept the ball high on drives to the rim to avoid getting the ball swiped away by smaller defenders. His physicality at both ends of the floor was apparent throughout the night, bucking through double teams to score on putbacks or create separation with shoulder dunks before 2-handed dunks. Shooting form looked smooth on 18' jumpers off the catch and on his FT attempts.

14p 7r 4a 7b New Town

-The skill level has come a long way as his offensive game is on display in new threads at New Town. Jones was effective working out of the block, short corner, and high post areas as a wing that can shoot, pass or drive. He's added weight to his frame to score more effectively through contact around the rim and has refined his footwork to maneuver through double teams to create better scoring angles. Jones started things off with a good seal and finish on the BLOB, knocked down a face-up baseline jumper, snagged an O board and hit a point-blank putback floater, and did a great job of kicking ahead to teammates in transition as soon as he grabbed defensive rebounds. Love the diversity in his skillset and improvements to both his upper body strength and leaping ability--decent pathway to a scholarship career at the next level if his development continues its upward trajectory.

7p 9r 1a 1s 2b vs Montgomery Blair

-Osafo is far from a finished product but the big dog has added good weight to his frame that allows him to carve out space much more effectively in the paint. His touch from the FT line and around the rim was still a bit rusty as it was one of his first games back in the lineup, but he created a ton of extra opportunities for his team with 7 offensive rebounds in the game-- most of which came in traffic. The senior hit two big FTs late to cut the Blair lead down to 1 with under a minute left and the second chance opportunities generated by his rebounding were crucial in a game that came down to the wire.

-The big dog played well in spurts for Laurel as a physical screen-setter, rebounder, and low post scoring option. Sewell started things off by showing the soft touch on a putback tip-in, set up a good back side seal for the throw over the top before hitting the layup and was active on the glass. His mere presence in the paint forced opposing drivers to think twice about attacking the rim and he collected several screen assists for his guards in the halfcourt with physical picks that were difficult to navigate throughout the evening.

-The youngest prospect in this group, Turkson has a nice skillbase to build from over the next two years as a strong forward prospect willing to contribute in several areas for his team. Turkson started things off with a physical spin move with the left hand finish from block, caught a tough entry pass over the top to catch and finish through the double team at the rim, showed patience on another tough post catch to hit his matchup with a pump fake and1 lay, had a smooth elbow jumper off the catch over a closeout, and came up with a really low pass below his waist to catch and finish on the run under the rim in transition. The fluidity in his movement, skill level, and willingness to guard multiple positions should bode well for his long term projections.
