About Mike
Expert Analysis
Aaron Proia | Prep Hoops Scout
-Wright was up to his usual tricks as a dynamic athlete on the wing that can do a bit more on the perimeter than people think. Wright started things off with a 1-handed alley oop finish in transition, scored well off of step-throughs and pivots around the rim, and played through contact/double teams well to score or draw FTs throughout the game. His motor and determination to power past or hit his opponent with spin moves to get to his spots in the halfcourt led to easy buckets that he converted on with regularity. Wright has his pick from several local jucos and a few D2s that have begun recruiting the dynamic W/F tweener.

Previous Rank: Unranked
-The only previously-unranked prospect to crack our top 50, Wright had a LOUD set of performances down the stretch run of the season for a JFK team that won their region. Wright has improved his handle to take advantage of long strides that allow him to blow past his matchup on the perimeter and get to the rim. He’s an explosive leaper, can guard 3-5 at a pretty high level, and runs the floor incredibly hard to put himself in position for putbacks and alley-oop finishes. The shooting form looked solid on midrange jumpers off the catch and free throw attempts. High upside prospect that could flourish at the prep school or junior college level before hitting the scholarship level.

27p 15r 1a vs Richard Montgomery
One of the more dominant physical performances of the year as the unsigned senior wing bullied his way to the rim, hit jumpers off the catch, and served as a connector in the halfcourt. Wright routinely got past his man with long strides to the rim and runners off the window from both sides of the basket, scoring with either hand. Liked the way that he kept the ball high on drives to the rim to avoid getting the ball swiped away by smaller defenders. His physicality at both ends of the floor was apparent throughout the night, bucking through double teams to score on putbacks or create separation with shoulder dunks before 2-handed dunks. Shooting form looked smooth on 18′ jumpers off the catch and on his FT attempts.

Mike gave JFK a steady interior presence and consistently produced when he played with aggression. Early on he scored with two strong pivot moves into a finish, setting the tone with physicality. He rebounded hard on both ends and stayed involved on second-chance plays. Wright was effective slashing into the paint too and finished consistently through contact. He used a jab step into a drive to his right side, then converted another tough layup while absorbing contact. His best stretches came when he was focused and aggressive. He used his body well to force defenders into fouling situations. Wright also came up with a big and-one post move late to try to close the gap. He knocked down free throws and consistently got to the line. Overall he played with strength and toughness that helped keep JFK in the game to the end.
