The reigning Montgomery County Player of the Year stepped up when his team needed him most in a 51-44 win over Severna Park (MD), scoring 20 points and helping seal the deal at the free throw line.

Colston demonstrated strong floor leadership, effective perimeter defense, and efficient playmaking throughout the contest.

Expect Colston to post some silly scoring numbers this season as one of the best public school prospects in the state. At 6-foot-4, he brings great positional size and the ability to toggle on/off ball while remaining a consistent threat as he can score in a variety of ways. His range extends a few feet beyond the HS line and the gravity he demands whenever the ball is in his hands allows him to shift into another gear to blow by defenders. He can stop and pop from the mid range, finish floaters with soft touch or get all the way to the cup where he can absorb contact and remain balanced. All of his skills were on display in his 20-point outing that included six rebounds in a win over Severna Park.

It’s going to be fun watching the rising senior class in the public schools landscape to see who emerges as the top prospect, but Colston will be heavily in the mix both from an individual production and winning standpoint. He logged some impressive scoring performances as a junior, but there’s a high likelihood he’ll do it with even greater consistency as a senior for JFK while making others around him better. He brings good positional size as a combo guard, range that extends to the parking lot and instincts to get buckets around the rim in a creative manner. Winston Salem State became the first program to offer Colston and I’d expect a boatload of other DII programs to jump in sooner rather than later.

Healthy and well deserving boost here for Colston, who jumps into the top-20 after he capitalized on a strong junior campaign with an impressive spring/early summer. Not only did he torch teams at EBA Pre-Live Warmup headlined by a 40-point explosion, but he also took home MVP honors for the Capitol Hoops Summer League after averaging 28PPG and 8.3RPG for Kennedy. He enters the 2026-27 season as the reigning Montgomery County POY and will be among the top public school prospects in the state of Maryland and he looks to guide the Cavaliers to a county title and beyond.

Colston lit the event on fire yesterday as Kennedy looks to be one of the juggernauts in the MoCo Public School landscape once again in 2026-27. The reigning county POY settled in with an 18-point outing in game one as they defeated Hammond, but exploded for 42 points, including eight three’s, in their convincing victory over St. Mary’s Annapolis. The lead guard brings positional size at 6’3″-6’4″ with range from the parking lot on his deep ball on/off the dribble. He used his frame against smaller guard to get to the basket and finish comfortably, but can absorb contact from rotating bigs if needed while maintaining body control

-Loved the two-way impact and effortless pace that Colston played with in a pair of wins for his team. Colston impacts the game as an athletic guard prospect that can force stops on the ball and prevent baskets off the ball as a bouncy shot-blocker that takes pride in the defensive end of the floor. Colston plays with a start and stop pace with decisive changes in direction that makes it difficult to force turnovers and dribble pick-ups because defenders struggle to anticipate his timing. Colston knocked down shots from all 3 levels both off the bounce and off the catch, filled out his stat line by drawing fouls around the basket for easy points at the charity stripe, and showed that he is a gamer capable of stepping up in big moments down the stretch of games for his team.

Colston is a physical in-between guard who has nice positional size. He collected a few steals and turned it into offensive possessions for his team. He is effective turning the corner in the half-court and getting to the rim. Colston found his teammates with his passing and has no issues making plays for others.

Gabe showed toughness and confidence as a scorer, bouncing back from a slow start to make a major impact late in the game I caught from him. He stayed composed, took quality shots, and found his rhythm in the second half thanks to his efficiency. Gabe attacked the basket with purpose and looked for opportunities to get himself going. His confidence never wavered, and it paid off in the biggest moment as he knocked down the game-winning three in overtime to secure a 4A MPSSAA Regional Championship for JFK.

The Montgomery County Player of the Year leaps into the top-50 after a spectacular individual season where he played hero in the regional title game against Richard Montgomery as he buried the game-winning three. The lead guard averaged and impressive 25 points, seven rebounds and three steals per contest as he looks to build on the momentum further with TTO National this spring and summer. Colston is capable of putting up a crooked number in the scoring column whenever he steps on the floor and that’ll remain the theme as he steps into a senior leadership role for Kennedy next winter. Colston made the jump from No. 87 to No. 47.

-The reigning POY didn’t contribute to his normal level as a scorer for the Cavaliers but found other ways to impact the game to lead to the eventual win. Colston used a strong frame and sharp positioning instincts to serve as a timely rebounder that came up with some tough boards in traffic just because he kept playing through the whistle. Loved his impact defensively as an effective shot-blocker both on and off the ball who uses an explosive leaping ability to recover or rotate well to block shots around the rim. Colston came to life offensively in the 2H by hitting the high pickup euro step floater in traffic, bullying his way to the FT line (often by crashing into multiple opponents to snag offensive rebounds), and hitting an and-1 game-winning 3 just before the ?s=20" rel="nofollow">buzzer. Since eliminated, Colston should make a name for himself this spring on the AAU circuit as a hidden gem that will definitely be a riser in our next rankings update.
