MPSSAA 3A Recap: New Faces, Eye-Catching Underclassmen

The MPSSAA State Championship brought out some of the best individual performances of the season with multiple players stepping up in the biggest of moments! This group of 2028 & 2029 prospects really made a name for themselves and/or starred for their respective teams during the 3A MPSSAA State Championship games.    Ja'Ron caught my eye as a dynamic combo guard that played at a level above his peers throughout North Hagerstown's playoff run. He consistently produced as both a scorer and playmaker, showing the ability to score inside and from the perimeter alike. Got on the glass well for his size on the defensive ends. Nicholson flashed his unique ability to make strong reads when attacking off the wing as he efficiently created opportunities for himself and his teammates. His versatility and decision-making allowed him to impact the game in multiple ways in both of the Hubs' playoff contests. His all-around offensive production made him one of the more intriguing underclassmen to watch in the future.     Nate is a quick shifty guard that will constantly put pressure on the defense with his ability to get to his spots off the dribble. He showed the ability to attack downhill with nice pace and drew fouls at a high rate. Nate also showed he could stretch the floor as the off-guard and spot up for 3's along the entire perimeter. He displayed solid vision, finding open teammates after collapsing the defense. His combination of speed, shot-making, and playmaking made him a tough cover throughout the playoffs.     Mookie stood out as a strong, aggressive guard who can read the defense and attack the gaps. He showed touch with tough floaters over incoming help defender, but could also use his strength to finish through contact. Mookie displayed high-level feel in the middle of the floor against zone defenses, consistently making the right reads whether passing or scoring. He delivered multiple assists, including precise feeds to the dunker spot and kick-outs for open threes. Mookie showed great activity on the glass through Frederick's run to the MPSSAA State Semis. I came away very impressed with Mookie's ability to generate offense through positioning and awareness, and by using his body and agility to create for himself. Another strong sophomore to keep tabs on.     Alan showed as a confident perimeter scorer that made a major impact with his shooting throughout the playoffs. He knocked down key shots in big moments, helping Magruder reach the state championship game. Alan proved to be a reliable three-point shooter who could make shots with or without a contest. When locked in, he showed the ability to score from multiple spots on the floor no matter the defender. He also contributed on the glass from the wing and played with consistent energy on both ends. Proved to be a valuable piece in Magruder's deep postseason run.     Toby was a physical interior presence that produced by establishing position and finishing strong in the paint. He showed polished footwork, including a smooth face-up move into a strong hop-step finish. He was effective on the block during the State Playoffs, using strategic backdowns and scoring moves. Toby impacted the glass strong on both ends for Largo and worked hard to get into scoring position. Really enjoyed seeing Toby take the role as a reliable offensive option for the Largo Lions.
