On Thursday, February 12th I watched the match-up of 6A Chandler Wolves hosting the 6A Perry Pumas. The Tigers are one of the best teams in the AIA and have a chance to win the OPEN. Desert Vista should make the 6A playoffs.

I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

All the stats are unofficial.

Freshman Game (67-38 Perry won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2955337' first='Titus' last='McNair'] Perry

A scoring combo guard makes it look easy in stretches. He does see the court well but scores it so easily. He will blow by his defender with a burst, fall away from mid-range, get downhill, dunk it and hit the three off the catch. He scored 16+ points in only 2+ quarters. He also suits up on varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2957456' first='Jack' last='Courtright'] Perry

A strong, big bodied power forward is skilled and tough. He will score it around the basket efficiently and off the glass in and out of his area. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and sets strong picks.

Junior Varsity Game (80-48 Chandler won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2853933' first='Trey' last='McClure'] Chandler

A strong wing forward was showing it all off in just the first half of play. He was almost toying with the opponent. He grabs the ball off the glass and will take it to score with coast to coast takes. He will also rip thru, hit the three off the catch and score it in traffic. He also played on varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2693841' first='Dayne' last='Dancy'] Perry

A scoring point guard with a good feel for the game and next level timing on his passes. He scores it effortlessly will threes off the catch or pull with a super quick trigger, hesitations or bursts to the basket and has good length on defense. He scored 12+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3493692' first='Kellen' last='Walz'] Perry

A strong framed power forward with some girth and skill. He will score with drop steps with a nice touch around the basket, threes off the catch and uses his long arms to corral a board and go up to score. He scored 10+ points.

Varsity Game (62-57 Chandler won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1445948' first='Brandon' last='Stapleton'] Chandler (Pictured)

A bigger guard who can play on or off the ball. He had a huge game who showed off his full repertoire with tough downhill takes, pull-up threes or off the catch, he uses his gravity to then spin off of his defender to get to his spots to score. He handles contact well and rebounds well in his area. He scored a team high 24 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1950104' first='Jonathan' last='Mercado'] Chandler

A scoring lead guard had multiple clutch plays in their win vs Perry. He made some good plays setting the table with some nice dump offs for buckets. He filled it up with sharp pull-ups from mid-range and hit a clutch three with some range plus he essentially iced it with all his free throws he made giving him 18 important points in a fairly low scoring game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552733' first='Donovan' last='Palmer'] Chandler

A highly skilled post player who can score it from inside and out. He will face-up to the three point line but then has some post footwork to utilize. He will score with in-traffic takes thru the contact with multiple and-1's and offensive rebound put backs. He finished with 16 points 5+ rebounds and 1 block.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407205' first='Ja'Mir' last='Smith'] Chandler

A two-way power forward is quickly becoming one of the top athletic forwards in the AIA. He flies on the break way above the rim and outraces most defenders. He gobbles up rebounds and he is a premier shot blocker in and out of his area. He scored 2 points with 3 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146175' first='LJ' last='Diamond'] Perry

The top performer for the Pumas scored 24 points with 5+ assists. He scores with bursts to the basket with his next level speed, driving layups in traffic, deep threes off the pull or catch and he is an incredible on-ball defender. He picked multiple pockets that led to high flying dunks on the break. He also has better court vision then he gets credited with.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457665' first='Viktor' last='Babic'] Perry

A bigger point forward type with skill for days. He will score tough layups, dribble drives changing his speeds, threes off the catch and finds a way to get to his spots with his nice handle for his position. He can grab a rebound and push it up the court and make a play for a teammate. He scored 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2693801' first='Dane' last='Montague'] Perry

The big man controlled the paint and glass. He was unfortunately in foul trouble but when he was in the game he grabbed every rebound in his area fighting for position. He blocks or alters shots in his area and truly made it hard to score on him in the paint. He scored 2 points with 3 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2323611' first='Jerrance' last='Howard'] Perry

A scoring point guard who can make plays for his teammates. He is steadily improving in the last year with his pace and passing. He has a stronger frame to get downhill as he changes speeds well. He is very polished with mid-range pull-ups and threes off the catch. He scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2550840' first='Austin' last='Turner'] Perry

A bigger wing forward is a two-way player. He can score with mid-range pull-ups and gets to the basket with longer strides. He really makes his money on defense with the ability to defend multiple positions. He will rebound and block shots in his area and he is a good passer.

On Thursday, February 12th I watched the match-up of 6A Chandler Wolves hosting the 6A Perry Pumas. The Tigers are one of the best teams in the AIA and have a chance to win the OPEN. Desert Vista should make the 6A playoffs.
