It is that time of the year when you need to be getting hot to make a run in the state tournament. Here are the teams we think are the hottest in the state.

6A

Corner Canyon, Chargers

One thing that can separate a good team from a great team is teamwork and how players share the ball and help on defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1278508' first='Dillon' last='Roberts'] is turning into a really good player. He is quick, and the burst he has often gets him by defenders. Roberts does a great job of not over-dribbling and getting the ball to the right places. [player_tooltip player_id='2673550' first='Josh' last='Tolman'] is another player that has been playing some high-quality basketball. He helps off the ball better than most players and even when he does not get a steal or a block, he is contesting with good team defense. Mo Brown is not only racking up D1 football offers; he is playing two-way basketball and he can defend 1-5. You have a youngster like [player_tooltip player_id='2809197' first='Ty' last='Kozlowski'] who is making the right plays and he is also defending. Lastly, you need to really take notice of the kid who is playing his best ball right now, and that is [player_tooltip player_id='1278437' first='Tyler' last='Mortensen']. Corner Canyon might be the hottest team in 6A and arguably the state.

5A

Highland

Trying to not be a prisoner of the moment, Highland is playing some big-time ball. No disrespect to Olympus or Timpview, but the Rams have put themselves in a very intriguing position. With a big win over Olympus and an out-of-region loss for Timpview to a very talented team, Highland is now 16-2 heading down the stretch. The performances from [player_tooltip player_id='1598266' first='Jordan' last='Oberholtzer'] are unreal. He is pulling up from deep, crafty with his attacks, and looks like he is having a blast out there. They have five players scoring in double digits, including [player_tooltip player_id='1969236' first='Bodie' last='Dodge'] and Grady Lee, who have surged this year. Four of their next five games seem winnable, and they have a big matchup against Alta looming.

4A

Provo

Provo is riding a 16-game winning streak and could extend that to 19 before the state tournament, although they face two challenging opponents. What sets Provo apart are players like [player_tooltip player_id='1598259' first='Makai' last='Allen']. He's not only electrifying but also efficient, making smart plays. He's one of the best athletes in the state, averaging 21 points per game. Provo isn't a one-man team; they have talented role players, including [player_tooltip player_id='1960161' first='Callen' last='Tollestrup'], who is a complete ball player. Tollestrup can shoot from deep, and in the next possession, he can grab rebounds and get those crucial put-backs and and-1s. Provo is the real deal and could be the hottest team in 4A. Lucas Castagnetto and [player_tooltip player_id='2731143' first='Gehrig' last='Orchard'], or other players who have been impactful on this impressive run.

3A

Morgan

As much as Richfield and American Heritage continue to play good basketball, Morgan is the team this year that has been able to stay hot. Morgan has rattled off 11 wins in a row and is led by one of the most intriguing prospects in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='2388587' first='Bracken' last='Saunders']. Saunders is a player who is very hard to stop. He is averaging 23 points per game (PPG). His season low is 14 points this year. Jake Hasen and [player_tooltip player_id='2369988' first='Brody' last='Peterson'] have been very tough this year, and then you have a kid like [player_tooltip player_id='1978925' first='Mason' last='Williams'] who can go off! Morgan will stay hot, but they have a big-time matchup against American Heritage on February 4th.

2A

American Leadership

This team is built to make a run for a variety of reasons, but let's start with the straw that stirs the drink: [player_tooltip player_id='2194680' first='Kobe' last='Ross']. He slings the ball, can score, and makes everyone around him better. Copper Crockett might be the best big man in 2A, and then there's electric player Jalen Brewer. This team is the hottest in 2A, and that's saying something, as North Summit and Kanab are having great years.
