We are diving headfirst into 1A basketball, spotlighting the top players in the classification. Although it's the smallest division, 1A boasts a surprising number of athletes who demonstrate exceptional skills and play high-level basketball.

Blake Peterson, Wayne High School

Peterson is currently topping the 1A scoring charts with an average of 21 points per game. He is also just 30 points away from entering the prestigious 1,000-point club. As a shooter, Peterson is a threat. If you allow him to find his rhythm, he can be tough to guard. While his scoring ability is evident, he also possesses a calm demeanor on the court and is effective when cutting off screens.

[player_tooltip player_id='3175468' first='Jason' last='Hernandez'], Green River High School

Green River is among the teams with a chance to win it all in 1A, and Hernandez is a key reason why. He leads the state in three-point shooting and is in the top five in scoring, making him a significant threat on the perimeter. He is quick, able to get past defenders, and can also shoot the ball effectively. Hernandez also excels as a playmaker, creating opportunities and finding open teammates, evidenced by his five double-doubles through his passing ability. He is only 5'8, but the kid plays much bigger.

Trenton Virga, Panguitch High School

This prospect, standing at 6'7" with a 6'8" wingspan, is leading his 1A classification in rebounding, averaging 12 per game. He also contributes 15 points per game, making him a significant force to be reckoned with. His ability to finish above the rim and grab tough rebounds is a testament to his physical advantages. As an off-the-radar prospect in the Class of 2026, he could be a valuable addition to a club team seeking an unsigned senior.

[player_tooltip player_id='3036260' first='Camden' last='Hughes'], Manila High School

Hughes is a crafty 5'5" PG that excels as a ball mover for his team, ranking among the best passing guards in 1A. While capable of scoring in double figures, he prioritizes putting his team in the best position for success by distributing the ball effectively. In the class of 2028, he might be among the smaller players, but he plays a big game for Manila.

Brodee Montague, Piute High School

Montague is the second-leading scorer in the state, averaging 20 points per game. However, in his last five games, he's been putting up 23-24 points per game. He will need to continue this level of performance to give his team a chance to make a run in the state tournament.
