What would a Class AAAA 64 team tournament look like?

We use the state seedings to show you what a 64 team tournament (technically 62) would look like based on current results six weeks into the season. How many games would have a really rough travel schedule? Who would play who to kick things off? We dive in NOW

A 64 Team Tournament

It's 64 but really.... its 62. Anyway, this is what the 62 team event would look like with the QRF scores that much of the state uses for. Keep in mind these are the QRF scores used for seeds.

Bracket One

Bye - (1) Farmington

(9) Park of Cottage Grove at (8) Apple Valley

(13) Anoka at (4) Moorhead

(12) Irondale at (5) Edina

(15) Rogers at (2) East Ridge

(10) Stillwater at (7) Mounds View

(14) Coon Rapids at (3) Eden Prairie

(11) Eastview at (6) Spring Lake Park

Notes: This is easy travel for six of the seven games. Only Anoka would have a long road to go but... that is going to happen anyway as somebody has to travel to Moorhead the way things are right now. Also, I truly doubt Farmington would be the overall one seed but that is what QRF has right now.

Bracket Two

Bye - (1) Wayzata

(9) Chanhasssen at (8) Hastings

(13) Robbinsdale Armstrong at (4) Andover

(12) New Prague at (5) St. Paul Central

(15) Rochester JM at (2) Rosemount

(10 Minnetonka at (7) Bemidji

(14) Elk River at (3) Cretin-Derham Hall

(11) Woodbury at (6) Waconia

Notes: Wazyata is the overall two seed when it comes to all 62 with QRF but they should be the overall one if it was done by a human. Travel is bad only for Tonka here, but again, there are 8AAAA teams who will have to drive from the metro to Bemidji likely this year any way so this would just be spreading out who has to do it.

Bracket Three

(16) STMA at (1) Blaine

(9) Minneapolis Washburn at (8) Monticello

(13) Rochester Century at (4) Prior Lake

(12) Park Center at (5) Hopkins

(15) Bloomington Jefferson at (2) Lakeville South

(10) White Bear Lake at (7) Roseville

(14) Two Rivers at (3) Buffalo

(11) Owatonna at (6) Chaska

Notes: I don't see Blaine as a top seed, they would likely be more of a low two or high three seed if this was done by humans. Hopkins as a five seed is very low QRF wise especially after beating Maple Grove. And hey, Park Center vs Hopkins.... that would be fun. And the travel..... Century to Prior Lake is nothing, its Rochester to South metro and they already do that in section play.

Bracket Four

(16) Shakopee at (1) Eagan

(9) St. Louis Park at (8) Lakeville North

(13) Brainerd at (4) Maple Grove

(12) Duluth East at (5) Rochester Mayo

(15) Centennial at (2) Tartan

(10) Burnsville at (7) Forest Lake

(14) Cambridge-Isanti at (3) Osseo

(11) Champlin Park at (6) Alexandria

Notes: Maple Grove is a four is pretty low, Tartan should be a one, and Eagan shouldn't be a one and if they were, a reward should not be a Sweet 16 game with Maple Grove. Also, Eagan vs Shakopee in the 1 vs 16, Shako just beat Eagan getting their first win and giving Eagan their first loss (the QRF does not have that result yet despite it being two days ago).

And travel, CP having to go to Alex is tough, but 8AAAA teams already have to go between North metro and Alexandria. Brainerd to Maple Grove and vice versa has taken place in 8AAAA in the past and 8AAAA already has those scenarios so you are just spreading out who in the metro has to make that trip.

The feared travel game..... Duluth East at Rochester Mayo. This is the game that the state hates which is one of the many reasons they don't like the 64 team tournament.

We use the state seedings to show you what a 64 team tournament (technically 62) would look like based on current results six weeks into the season. How many games would have a really rough travel schedule? Who would play who to kick things off? We dive in NOW
