We recently updated our 2028 class rankings, looking at 70 of the top sophomores in the state of Virginia. Here's a look at part two of the top shooting guards and small forwards in the class.

15) [player_tooltip player_id='3046782' first='Davis' last='Winters'] | 6'4” SG | Western Albemarle (#44 Overall)

After an eye opening freshman season at Western, Winters has continued to show that he's one of the top young public school players in the Charlottesville area with the big start to his sophomore year. Standing 6'4” he's a big guard who can drill it from deep with range, he can handle it and get to spots where he can use his size to shoot over smaller defenders, he can get downhill and finish with both hands, and he's a versatile defender as well.

14) [player_tooltip player_id='2548144' first='Talon' last='Graves'] | 6'1” SG | Hayfield (#43 Overall)

Graves is an up and coming player for a young but talented Hayfield squad, and the way that Head Coach Carlos Poindexter develops players he's in the perfect spot for him to reach his maximum potential. Standing 6'1” with long arms and already showing that he's growing he's got good athleticism already that will only get better as he grows into his body, he can knock down open shots off the catch, he moves well off the ball to get open and get easy shots, and he does all the little things you like to see out of a young and raw prospect like defend and give all out effort.

13) Jackson Wooten | 6'1” SG | Bishop O'Connell (#30 Overall)

Wooten is the son of O'Connell's legendary coach Joe Wooten, and he plays the game in a way you'd expect a coaches son to play with a great skillset and a high IQ on both ends of the floor. The 6'3” off guard is a dead eye shooter from deep with good range and confidence, he is a good secondary ball handler who makes the right play consistently, he is willing to take on smaller roles at this point until his time comes, and he doesn't slack defensively with the ability to guard both on the ball and in help side.

12) [player_tooltip player_id='2918922' first='Peyton' last='Hicks'] | 6'3” SG | Matoaca (#26 Overall)

Hicks has been a player since he stepped on the floor at Matoaca where he started from day one, and after an impressive freshman campaign he's only looking better as he's emerging as one of the top young players in the RVA area. The 6'3” wing has an aggression you like to see as he attacks downhill hard and doesn't shy away from contact finishing through it and getting to the line often, he can get to spots off the bounce and make tough shots in the midrange, he can knock down shots on kick-outs off the catch, and he is not only capable but a good rebounder and defender as well.

11) [player_tooltip player_id='2548313' first='Miracle' last='Oruchukwu'] | 6'5” WF | Fairfax Christian (#25 Overall)

Oruchukwu seemingly came out of nowhere when he showed up with Fairfax Christian this fall, and if the way he's played so far this season is an indicator he's got a chance to move way up these rankings and catch the eye of college coaches sooner rather than later. The 6'5” wing is built to play the game as he has long arms and is an explosive athlete when he gets downhill or out in transition, he has all the tools to be a defensive stopper with his ability to get deflections and challenge shots with his length, he can get to spots or get downhill off the bounce where he can score it efficiently, and he's an unselfish playmaker as well.

10) [player_tooltip player_id='2918915' first='Aiden' last='Friend'] | 6'3” SG | St. Stephen's St. Agnes (#23 Overall)

Friend is a player who has shown a lot of flashes both in high school and in AAU since he entered the scene, and as he continues to get more opportunities he has a chance to be one of the top players in the NOVA area when it's all said and done. He looks the part with a 6'3” frame that should fill out nicely with long arms, he can play on the ball where he can get to spots with just a few dribbles and make shots from the midrange, he can knock it down from deep off the catch, and he has all the tools to thrive on the defensive end moving forward as well.

9) [player_tooltip player_id='2918910' first='Connor' last='Miles'] | 6'4” SG | Episcopal (#20 Overall)

Miles is another super intriguing prospect in the NOVA area who is starting to get more and more burn for a talented Episcopal team, and he's a player who can impact the game in so many different ways that lead to winning. Standing 6'4” he already has great positional size with a good frame already, he is a very good rebounder and plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor, he can score it from deep off the catch and attack closeouts to get to the midrange, and he's a high IQ player who finds ways to be productive even if he isn't scoring the basketball.

8) [player_tooltip player_id='2815380' first='Jayden' last='Banks'] | 6'5” SF | Highland School (#19 Overall)

Banks reclassified over the summer at Highland School after splitting time between JV and varsity last year, and it looks like the perfect move as he's starting to grow into his body and show that he's going to be a prospect to watch moving forward. The 6'5” wing is a smooth lefty who can knock it down when he's set and open, he thrives in transition where he can use his athleticism to get out and finish plays at the rim, he uses his length well defensively to challenge shots and jump passing lanes, and he's only scratching the surface as he continues to fill out and grow into his body.

7) [player_tooltip player_id='2194779' first='Aiden' last='Acquah'] | 6'4” SF | Paul VI (#15 Overall)

Acquah may be behind some older guys on one of the top teams in the country, but he's got tons of upside as a big, physical wing who still has a lot of room to improve moving forward. The 6'4” wing is already stronger than most players on his team and he isn't afraid to get physical with older guys on the defensive end, he gets downhill in transition and in the half court where he uses his strength to finish through contact, he is improving as an outside shooter and becoming respectable from behind the arc, and he is all in on doing the dirty work and the little things to help his team.

6) [player_tooltip player_id='2847084' first='Blake' last='Fitzgerald'] | 6'7” SF | Highland School (#12 Overall)

Fitzgerald transferred to Highland School over the summer from Flint Hill and reclassified to the 2028 class, and so far this season he's showing all the potential we have seen is starting to turn into production. He's a different type of player as somewhat of a tweener forward with an old school game, as he thrives in the midrange and impacts the game in a lot of different ways. While the midrange is his bread and butter he can knock it down from deep which allows him to attack closeouts, he has long arms and is a sneaky athlete that will put it on a defenders head if they underestimate him, and he is a good playmaker who can use his height to see over defenders and deliver passes to open teammates as well.
