We recently updated our 2028 class rankings, looking at 70 of the top sophomores in the state of Virginia. Here's a look at part one of some of the new players that joined the updated rankings.

#12) [player_tooltip player_id='2847084' first='Blake' last='Fitzgerald'] | 6'7” PF | Highland School

Fitzgerald transferred to Highland from Flint Hill and reclassified after having a breakout summer last year, and he's one of the more intriguing prospects you'll come across with his blend of size, athleticism and skill that makes him a walking mismatch. He has a bit of an old school style as he really thrives in the midrange game, he can stretch the floor off the catch and attack closeouts where he's an athletic finisher at the rim, and he's a capable passer and playmaker too.

#13) [player_tooltip player_id='2194772' first='Cameron' last='Jefferson'] | 6'1” CG | Gainesville

Jefferson is one of a number of intriguing prospects for a Gainesville team that has had a great start to the season, and the way he scores the basketball for his age is eye opening and impressive. The 6'1” combo plays with good pace and has great burst to blow by defenders and get to the rim, he can create separation and is a tough shot maker from all three levels off the bounce, he sets the tone defensively with his on ball pressure, and he's a big time athlete who is likely still growing.

#17) [player_tooltip player_id='2960264' first='RJ' last='Mickleberry'] | 6'3” SG | Glen Allen

Mickleberry has been a big reason for Glen Allen's fast start as they look like one of the top teams in the RVA area, and he's already shown even before high school that he's one of the best shooters you will come across in his class. The 6'3” two guard already has in the gym range and makes it look effortless when he lets it fly, he knows how to read screens and does a good job setting his feet on the move, and he's a good athlete who can attack off the bounce and make plays on the defensive end too.

#18) [player_tooltip player_id='3336925' first='Chum' last='Kodi'] | 6'9” PF | Highland School

Kodi, whose older brother Ripp is a senior for this Highland team, is a player to keep an eye on moving forward as he is just scratching the surface with his skillset and has an impressive frame for a player his age. At 6'9” with a strong build he's not easily pushed around even when he's matched up with older players, he is comfortable on the perimeter with the ability to make shots and drive in straight lines now, and he's only going to get better as he grows into his body and gets more fluid as an athlete.

#22) [player_tooltip player_id='3336926' first='Jaeden' last='Palmer'] | 6'2” CG | Highland School

Palmer is another transfer to a Highland group that only returned two rotation players from their state championship last year, and Palmer already comes from a winning program in Patriot where he was one of their go-to players last year. Reclassifying to the 2028 class was a great move for him as he is a talented guard who can make shots off the catch and touch the paint off the bounce, he has great tools defensively to be able to guard the other team's best perimeter scorer, and he is an unselfish and hard working player who will do whatever it takes to help the team win.

#25) [player_tooltip player_id='2548313' first='Miracle' last='Oruchukwu'] | 6'5” SF | Fairfax Christian

Oruchukwu is a player whose background I may not know, but he popped up out of nowhere for Fairfax Christian this fall and shows a ton of promise moving forward with physical and athletic tools already. The 6'5” wing has long arms and an athletic frame and likely is still growing, he is dynamite in transition where he can use his athleticism to play above the rim, he can handle the ball and get downhill to the rim, and he has great defensive tools as well.
