Under the Radar 2028 Lead Guards

Virginia's 2028 class already features a number of well established college prospects, but there's another group beginning to emerge. Here's a look at five players who are poised to see their recruitment pick up steam this spring and summer as they continue to develop and produce.    Reed is a quick, dynamic point guard who plays with pace and confidence. He is a strong passer who sees the floor well and consistently creates opportunities for teammates. Reed is also a capable shot maker, able to score off the dribble or knock down open looks from the perimeter. His speed, playmaking ability, and scoring touch make him a well-rounded lead guard with the ability to control the game.     The sophomore is a quick, scoring point guard who consistently puts pressure on the defense. He gets into the paint with ease, creates advantages off the dribble, and is a confident shot maker from both the perimeter and midrange. He has a strong feel for the game, makes winning plays, and understands how to control tempo and impact the game in key moments. His combination of scoring ability, decision making, and instincts makes him a highly effective lead guard.     The sophomore helped lead 434 Select to a championship at the Big Shots Richmond Jam this past weekend, averaging nearly 15 points per game. Steptoe is a quick, tough scoring guard who excels attacking the paint and creating his own offense. He plays with physicality, finishes through contact, and consistently pressures the defense. Defensively, he is active and competitive, bringing energy on that end of the floor. His perimeter shooting continues to improve, and with his strong feel for the game, he impacts winning in multiple ways.     Scott is a steady lead guard who does an excellent job running a team and controlling the tempo. He has strong command of the basketball, makes sound decisions, and keeps the offense organized. Scott uses ball screens effectively to create advantages, showing the ability to read the defense and make the right play as a scorer or facilitator. He is also a reliable perimeter shot maker who can stretch the floor and capitalize on open looks, adding to his overall effectiveness as a floor general.     Lacey averaged 12.3 points and 4.1 assists per game this season for Mountain View, showcasing his ability to impact the game as both a scorer and playmaker. A very quick guard, he is excellent with the ball in his hands and consistently puts pressure on the defense. He's tough to keep out of the paint, where he can finish or collapse the defense and create opportunities for others. Lacey is a capable passer who sees the floor well and finds open teammates, and his combination of speed, feel, and decision making makes him a dynamic lead guard.
