Saturday night played host to a 3 Rivers vs Interstate 8 conferences matchup. Class 2A top 25 team Mendota Trojans (14-4) traveled down south on 251 to take on Class 3A LaSalle Peru (11-4). In a game after the first half which looked like Mendota was going to continue to spread the scoring margin out, LaSalle Peru continued to fight and clawed it's way back in it during the 3rd and 4th quarters. A few players stood out between the 2 squads, a couple of which are class of 2028 guys who will continue to be on our radars for the next couple of years. Let's take a look at each of these players.

Here are the scoring updates through each quarter of this game.

LaSalle Peru: 11, 27, 47, 63
Mendota: 23, 44, 57, 72

Had a near 30 piece in a high up-tempo scoring affair. Recognized his opportunities from seeing the whole floor and went to work. Mixed it up well with the ball in his hands showing a valuable amount of skill sets. Jab step with drive, swing throughs takes, crab dribbles, baby hooks, and floaters were all fair game around the rim. Shooting efficiency was at a high clip with pure precision. Converted on multiple and 1's in traffic. Knows how to get a defender on his back to spin off and use his length to finish over the top. Has some old school touch. Defensively will wall up in the paint to contest. Likes to push the ball after rebounding for primary break opps. Banged in a couple 3's as well throughout to keep team's momentum going. Lefty 2028 combo guard has a bright future ahead.

Started off the game feeling it in rhythm from beyond the arc. Spaces away accordingly from the wing spot to catch and shoot. Knocked down 2 more trey balls from dribble handoffs with one being from 3 feet beyond the arc. Had him down for 4 3's total on the night. Court vision was there for pitch ahead opportunities off of team's press break. Sees cutters in the ½ court setting for assists. Has vision to find open guys. Finished the game regathering his own missed shot and then was successful putting it back in. Overall fundamentally sound and can get hot quickly from deep.

Tough player to guard with the ball in his hands. Endures the physicality of the game with solid feel and touch in the paint. Has the strength and toughness that comes with bursts of speed to get down hill in a hurry. Plays mostly a 4 in team's system but could easily be a guard with driving and handling abilities as well. Came off screens hard to get to the cup fast. Played bully ball underneath with at times 2 or 3 defenders around him and still finished through contact. Has the tenacity to gain second chance opportunities off missed shots because of his hard nosed mentality. Uses his body with sound IQ and agility. Picked off a pass for a 2 hand slam finish the other way with a minute to go. Has a true competitive nature and helped will team back into the game throughout.
