Tuesday night at Breck High School Breck hosted Minnehaha Academy in a 2A match-up. Both basketball programs are in the midst of rebuilding, Minnehaha hired a new coach last year Jadee Jones, Tyus and Tre's older brother. Breck on the hand has graduated a number of talented players.

Coming in the Redhawks have a better record at 6-4 and coming off victories Friday and Saturday. Friday Minnehaha beat Blake 74-56 and versus undefeated Central Minnesota Christian the Redhawks won 93-82.

The Mustangs were 3-8 coming in but had won 3 of their last 6 after starting the season with 5 consecutive losses. Breck beat SPA on Friday at Target Center 80-65.

Minnehaha started the game off with a [player_tooltip player_id='2416947' first='Ayden' last='Green'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2436914' first='Kellen' last='Troup'] screen action on the left side of the court that led to a pass to 2030 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2419994' first='Carter' last='Cupito']. Cuptio drove to his left, getting to the paint and hit Troup with an easy two-hand chess pass for an open wing 3-pointer. That 3-0 lead started the Redhawks on a nearly start to finish lead with exception to a 18-18 tie midway through the first half.

Any small burst Breck had offensively, Minnehaha answered. 2027 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2140643' first='Joffrey' last='Wilson'] who scored 3 points made a highlight sequence in the first half. With Green and Troup working together again but this time in short roll, Troup this time made the pass cross court to Wilson who knocked down the 3-pointer with a defender closing. Then, Wilson picked up a Breck driving guard and swatted away their lay-up attempt.

Throughout the game the Redhawks pushed pace and spaced the floor around Troup and [player_tooltip player_id='2916849' first='Mekhi' last='Abner'] who was making his first Varsity start. Troup took advantage of the space leading Minnehaha in scoring, and Abner benefited from single defensive coverage in the post and around the basket.

Prospect Reviews

[player_tooltip player_id='2436914' first='Kellen' last='Troup'] - The six-foot-eight-inch 2027 wing from Minnehaha Academy scored 22 points. Troup showed his 3-pointer shooting range making a couple triples and his ability to cut and dive to the basket to score inside. Troup's athletic ability enables him to jump and reach higher for rebounds, and the same ability enables him opportunities around the rim inside. Troup, who is averaging 17 points per game through 11 games has scored 22 or more in 4 of his last 5 games, all wins for Minnehaha.

[player_tooltip player_id='1560864' first='JP' last='Musoke'] - Musoke is a six-foot-six-inch 2026 forward from Breck who scored 23 points Tuesday night which is his season average. Musoke has scored at least 12 points in every game this season, over 20 in 7 games, and over 20 in 6 straight games. Musoke looks a lot more comfortable handling the ball in space and on the perimeter, a huge improvement. His outside jump shoot looks smoother, and off the dribble also looks confident. Musoke did well to draw contact and even finish a time or two through contact.

Carter Cuptio - The 2030 Minnehaha Academy guard is the only middle school boys basketball player I can think of who's starting in high school basketball. Cuptio, who's also the starting quarterback for the football team, has scored in double figures 9 out of 11 times this season and is averaging 11.2 points per game. Cupito is very solid as a ball handler, doesn't seem to get sped up, and passes the ball very well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2857125' first='Oliver' last='Flick'] - Flick is a six-foot-nine-inch/six-foot-ten-inch 2026 center for Breck that scored 20 points Tuesday night. Nearly all of Flick's baskets came in the paint or around the rim, and he utilized his size to finish over the top multiple times. Flick did make one mid-range baseline jumper over a close defender showing that he may have potential as a jump shooter. Flick is a fine floor runner, and looks like a true center position player.

[player_tooltip player_id='2916849' first='Mekhi' last='Abner'] - The six-foot-four-inch 2029 Minnehaha Academy forward continues to look more and more ready to handle stiffer competition. In 7 of his 11 games this season he's scored double figures including 17 points last week versus CMC. As Abner's scoring increases, his usage doesn't as he is an efficient scorer. Against Breck one basket was off an offensive rebound, two others on post-ups, and another on a drive and dump hand-off. Abner is also very active as a defender and rebounder, and doesn't slack off a single possession.

[player_tooltip player_id='2416947' first='Ayden' last='Green'] - Green is a 2027 guard for Minnehaha Academy that scored 15 points Tuesday night. Green showed ability as a perimeter scorer making three 3-pointers, and his quickness and handle enabled him to navigate into space. Green is averaging 15.3 points per game for the Redhawks and has hit double figures in 9 of 11 games this season so far.

[player_tooltip player_id='2428302' first='Max' last='Munsell'] - Munsell is a five-foot-nine-inch 2028 left-handed guard for Breck that scored 8 in the game. Munsell shot the ball well from the perimeter, very good looking motion and release. Munsell played mostly as an additional ball handler, and shared the ball well as the ball never stuck long when it touched his hands.

[player_tooltip player_id='2455802' first='Cobe' last='Blades'] - Blades a five-foot-nine-inch 2029 guard for Breck is a quick point guard who is a good aggressive dribbler and passer. Blades took up responsibilities defensively, and didn't back down in this contest. Blades still seems to be finding his way as a varsity freshman but he shows signs of maturity and increasing abilities.
