Pima Aztec Holiday Classic Standouts Part One

The tournament included the following schools AZ College Prep, Buena, Canyon Del Oro, Flowing Wells, Gilbert, Gregory, Ironwood Ridge, Kofa, Nogales, Palo Verde, Pueblo, Santa Rita, Sahuaro, Sunrise Mountain, Tanque Verde and Tucson High. Elevates high to secure the easy score. Plays with confidence and at a high level. Sees the floor well and makes smart plays. High percentage mid range game. Scored a lot off his turn around fade away. Strong on ball defender. Always seemed to be a step ahead of his opponents.Strong and accurate passer always on target. Has a great feel for the game. Sparked a run to start the second half with a deep three followed by a quick steal on the next possession for another score. Aggressive on ball defender. Came up with some key steals. Very quick. Blows by the defense in transition. Plays and moves very well without the ball. The Dorados trailed just about the entirety of the first half, Robles was crucial for their comeback win. Ortiz knocked down four from beyond the arc finishing the half with 16 points. One of the more athletic players in Southern Arizona elevates high for rebounds and quickly advances the ball up court.Lengthy defender and shot blocker. Very disruptive in the passing lanes. In the second half Ortiz sparked a run with a two handed dunk and then a deep three on the following possession to cut the lead to one. Two plays later he got the gym cheering on a monster alley oop. Showed his skill and ability to score at every level within the first ten minutes of the game. Has a nice three ball. Can play 1-4 effectively. Impacts the game on both sides of the ball. An electric player to watch play. Great rebounding ability, attacked the boards fiercely and accounted for a few second chance scores. Attacks the basket strong and finishes with a nice floater. Cuts through traffic with ease and uses his stride to beat his opposition. Breedlove has a strong motor and is a natural athlete. Great awareness and seemed to know where to be the be effective. He was a key piece on getting his team to the championship game at this tournament. Showed to be a strong on ball defender who moved laterally very well keeping his opponents from getting to their spots. He came alive in the second half both defensively and offensively. Salter has good athletic ability and showed it getting up and blocking 3 shots in the half. He shot 4-5 including the game winning shot with 1.1 seconds left on the clock. Salter is developing very well and at a fast pace. He is dominant in the paint and knows how to move and impact possessions. His ability to shoot the three allows him to space the floor well which he then catches his opponent off guard cutting baseline for the dunk or the nice finish off the glass. Very effective rebounder and gets up quick for the second chance score. A good shot blocker and has great awareness. Very strong in the pick and roll.
