John Wall Holiday Invitational Day One Standouts (Part One)

The John Wall Holiday Invitational brings an incredible environment to Broughton High School after Christmas every single year. This year's field has a special group of talent with teams from all over the country and a ton from the great state of North Carolina. Games are underway and we'll have coverage all week long on Prep Hoops NC. Here are some of the early standouts!    Giant put on a really strong performance in Greensboro Day's dominant win over Millbrook in their opening round game. Giant's ability to help run the show alongside [player_tooltip player_id='2194791' first='Micah' last='Gunter'] gives this Greensboro Day team a multitude of ball handlers and creators that can spread the ball around to their talented wings and forwards. Giant finished with 24 Points with 3 Rebounds and 3 Assists in the win. He also shot 9/12 from the floor, proving it to be an efficient outing. Giant's ability to get to the paint, connect on outside shots, and do it all within the flow of the offense stood out in a major way. He was a main part of the defensive flow for Greensboro Day in what was a dominant victory.     In what was a tough game for Millbrook, Conti was a true bright spot for this group by pouring in 23 Points and 6 rebounds. Conti really showed his ability to stretch the floor, going 6-11 from deep on the day. This could be a breakout game in that aspect of his game which can really help him as a prospect. He did his usual low post work, using his size to bully taller but leaner players. He showed the touch from the mid and high post all while contributing on the glass with six rebounds. Conti showed he can hang with higher level teams as his game continues to evolve, very intrigued to see what we get from him the rest of the week.     Bowes is a gem of a prospect that will undoubtedly find himself ranked. On a stacked Greensboro Day team it can be difficult to stand out but Bowes absolutely did in GDS's dominant win over Millbrook. Bowes finished with 7 Points on 3-3 from the floor in less than ten minutes of action. Bowes possesses some real skill in his game as a shooter + as a creator while pushing 6'8" as a sophomore. Bowes should continue to help Greensboro Day this week and all season long with his unique skillset. Despite not having super loud or frankly a ton of production, there was a lot to like from him today.     Duggins has a chance to find himself in the top spot for our 2029 rankings next month. He is a really special prospect with a ton of game. He finished today with 9 Points and 12 Rebounds, completely owning the glass, getting 4 on the offensive end as well. The kid has a pretty release on his shot, connecting on one of two from beyond the arc today. He does everything Coach Johnson asks of him, and to do that at that level, at that age is pretty unprecedented for Greensboro Day. Duggins has a chance to be a very very highly recruited player and he's making people notice in his first John Wall Holiday Appearance.     Whitty had a brilliant second half for Christ School who ran away from Southeast Raleigh as the game went on. The WVU commit was a real persence on the glass, tying for the team lead with seven while pouring in 15 points. Whitty is really smooth in ball screen situations, getting to the basket where he is a really high level finisher. Defensively he was really impactful guarding the point of attack and making life difficult for the opposition as the game went on. Whitty is physically ready for the challenges of college hoops and should continue to help Christ School through the rest of the week and into the Nike EYBL Scholastic slate.
