On Thursday, Nov 20th I attended the 6A match-up of Basha hosting Pinnacle. Basha is one of the top teams in 6A and Pinnacle is an up and coming 6A team with a lot of talented youth.

I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Freshman Game (Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='3077229' first='Sal' last='Alosi'] Basha Basha

A quick undersized point guard who can score it easily. He is great off of the pick and roll game and makes the read. He will score it with pull-ups, transition layups, he gets downhill to the basket and has nice ball rotation on his threes. He scored 14+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077234' first='Jacob' last='Kasel'] Basha

A lefty power forward who will rip thru and score with his dominant hand. He has a real nice touch on his free throws and plays aggressively with his football background. He may just stick with football but he has a good chance on the hard court.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077238' first='Mason' last='Ireland'] Basha

A lefty power forward has a nice mid-range jumper. He is very long in the passing lanes to collect steals and has a wiry, active frame to rebound in and out of his area plus defend in space.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077190' first='Blake' last='Carapetian'] Pinnacle

An undersized point guard with advanced court vision. He will throw up the court passes up on a rope and really sees the court with live dribble passes. He will score with reverse layups going baseline, catch threes with a nice stroke and euro steps. He scored 10+ points with 5+ assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077192' first='Nikon' last='Savic'] Pinnacle

A big strong kid with wider broad shoulders and girth. A football player has a decent shooting stroke with nice ball rotation on his free throws and he will score with offensive rebound put backs, rip thrus, floaters and he had multiple and-1's with his sheer strength. He is another one who may just stick with football.

Junior Varsity Game (81-68 Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='3077626' first='Carmelo' last='Pierce'] Basha

A Bishop Gorman/NV combo guard transferred in and has some talent. He is a smooth guard who plays on or off the ball. He is very good on the ball defensively and he can make plays with either hand. He scores it with offensive rebound put backs using his athleticism, cuts off the ball, he is aggressive to the rim and will hit the three off the pull or catch. He scored 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692801' first='Thomas' last='Sorenson'] Basha

A good sized scoring guard with a pretty stroke from the three point line off the catch. His ball rotation is what it is supposed to look like and he gets it off his hands quickly. He can dribble operate to create his own offense and plays the game from the neck up. He scored 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2692796' first='Ezra' last='Sander'] Basha

The man in the middle had a good showing. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and he is a top-notch rebounder with soft hands. He sets strong picks and the southpaw is very strong to rebound and fight for position. He will block or alter shots and has improving post footwork.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077651' first='Ashton' last='Smith'] Basha

A physical framed forward can play either forward spots up front. He has a good-looking mid-range jumper but loves to mix it up inside. He will rip thru and get downhill and score thru the contact. He rebounds well in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077628' first='Jadon' last='Turner'] Basha

A small forward is a freak athlete with length and a little size. He will rip thru to the basket and he is very fluid in the open court. He handles it decently and can make a play. He makes his money with his rebounding and blocking shots off the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2560331' first='Owen' last='French'] Basha

A good ball handler with some shift to his game. He has advanced court vision with some drop offs in traffic and drive and kicks. He will score hitting perimeter jumpers plus getting downhill. He has a calming feeling when he is on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2865908' first='Alex' last='Lies'] Pinnacle

A long and leaner forward who seems to keep growing every viewing of him. He has one of the prettier shooting strokes in the class with size. He will fall away from his defender, crossover into a pull-up but his catch three is money. He rebounds well in his area and cuts to the basket smartly for easier points. This one is trending up. He scored 17+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548083' first='Austin' last='Starr'] Pinnacle

Another long and lean sophomore for the Pioneers is Austin. The lefty has a high feel for the game with good court vision and pace to the game. He will score it with pull-ups from mid to the three but is best off the catch. His euro game is advanced and he also seems to keep growing. He scored 17+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077200' first='Drake' last='Good'] Pinnacle

A cerebral combo guard plays from the neck up. He will hesitate to the basket to get downhill and has a nice shooting stroke from the perimeter. He has a good feel for the game with advanced court vision. He likes getting downhill with changing speeds and getting his opponents off balanced to get to his spots. He is mostly an under the rim scorer but just knows how to play. He scored 13+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3077292' first='Brayden' last='Dumas'] Pinnacle

A quick on quick undersized guard who can score. He is very fast in the open court and he is disruptive on the ball defensively. He will get to the basket off the dribble but he also will hit the open three off the catch. He scored 10+ points.

Varsity Game (74-60 Basha won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1323290' first='Mason' last='Magee'] Basha

The maestro and top point guard in the AIA made everyone around him better. He sees plays developing quickly and dissected the Pioneer defense impressively with pinpoint passes in traffic to teammates or looked for his hot shooters. He will score it with mid-range pull-ups and has a quick burst with either hand to get downhill. He takes contact well and will score thru it. He collected a bunch of steals which led to dunks on the break and he has serious speed to burn in the open court. He had an impressive stat line with 15 points, 10+ assists, 3+ steals and a block.

[player_tooltip player_id='2249943' first='Lleyton' last='Leonard'] Basha

One of the top motors in the sophomore class is a fierce competitor. He has a very strong core with incredible length and athleticism for days to defend in space and keep his opponents in front of him. His out of area rebounding is elite and he is trying to take the rim down with some of his dunk attempts on the break. He will also drive and kick it unselfishly and block shots out of his area. He scored 6 points and seemed to be everywhere on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2276223' first='Kingston' last='Montague'] Basha

A combo guard who showed underrated passing skills and good pace to his game. He is an effortless shooter and a straight sniper from mid to the three point line. He has a quick trigger with his threes with range and will score with offensive rebound put backs. He scored a game high 25 points with four assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482164' first='Desean' last='Middlebrook'] Basha

If Leonard doesn't have the highest motor it is Middebrook. He grabbed at least 10 rebounds in and way out of his area with his supreme quick bounce leaping up over the crowd on many plays. He scores it often with put backs, hook shots, cuts off the ball and he has a more polished mid-range jumper. He sets strong picks and will roll. He is their ultimate glue guy who will do everything it takes to win on both ends of the court. He scored 17 points with 10+ rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2320420' first='Blake' last='Roberts'] Basha

The big man for the Bears keeps getting a little better yearly. He rebounds well in and out of his area with boxing his man out and gaining position before the ball comes off the glass. He truly has soft hands to catch tough passes to score it inside the paint and will score with put backs and sets strong picks. He scored 6 points with 5+ rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2301235' first='Rhys' last='M. Robinson'] Pinnacle

The top Pioneer player of the night was definitely Robinson. The long baby faced wing forward was very efficient with his scoring with dribble drives to the basket, getting to the charity stripe, mid-range jumpers with a high arcing stroke and he will hit the three. He comes off of screens and is ready to fire away. He rebounds well in his area and will block shots. He scored a team high 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407206' first='Cameron' last='Hurt'] Pinnacle

A talented junior point guard with quickness with the ball and real speed. He will jet downhill to the basket blowing past his defenders. He impressively keeps his dribble alive versus heavy pressure. His deep shot was not falling last night but he still found ways to affect the game with his passing, he collected steals and scored with tough shots at the rim. He scored 12 points with a few assists and steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470696' first='Tyonne' last='Brown'] Pinnacle

A bigger wing forward missed a lot of basketball but is back and looking good. He will score with cuts off the ball, he can get to the basket, he is patient in the post and he will hit the three off the catch. He has impressive positional size and he may one of their wildcards during the long season. He scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407207' first='Malachi' last='Mims'] Pinnacle

A tough two-way guard can be their 3 and D type. He plays on or off the ball and will defend one of the top guards nightly. He can shoot it with deep shots from 20-feet and has the speed and toughness to get a step on his defender and score it inside with contested layups. He will earn trips to the free throw line and brings his hard hat to every game. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1736170' first='Kareem' last='Alkhalifa'] Pinnacle

A good sized wing forward can score it from the perimeter or get a step on his defender and finish it off with tough euro steps with either hand. He rebounds well with his size and has some inner toughness. He is also a plus defender on guards and wings. He scored 6 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457854' first='Grant' last='Budd'] Pinnacle

The big man comes in off the bench and provides interior defense and his sheer size bothered his opponents. He showed more fight then ever before and rebounds the ball at a high clip plus blocks shots with some force. He will even step out and shoot it from the perimeter. He only scored 2 points but had maybe 5+ rebounds and 3 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457855' first='Lucas' last='Alvarado'] Pinnacle

A stronger framed scoring guard with a pretty looking stroke from mid to the three point line. He can pull-up from mid-range and will typically hit the three off the catch. He is always in shot-ready mode and fire away. He is their scorer off the bench to provide some important depth to the youthful roster. He scored 5+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2886382' first='Brandon' last='Morris'] Pinnacle

An incoming freshmen with a super shifty handle looks to be another stud youngster in the Pioneer program. He is a real point guard with a tight handle and speed and shift in his bag. He can burst past his defenders to the basket, get to the line and advance passes and can break down a defense. He will be one to monitor for the future.

On Thursday, Nov 20th I attended the 6A match-up of Basha hosting Pinnacle. Basha is one of the top teams in 6A and Pinnacle is an up and coming 6A team with a lot of talented youth.
