The high school basketball season is right around the corner as tryouts start today. The 2026 class is set to finish their varsity careers on a high note, especially guards transferring into schools. Here are the 2026 transfer guards who should make an impact this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1604422' first='Alex' last='Pace'], 6'2 PG Camden

[player_tooltip player_id='1919210' first='Mikah' last='Hart'] is also primed to make an impact for the High in the backcourt, but Pace is looking to make an immediate impact in his only season in the Garden State. The Georgia native has a quick first step, which he uses to blow by his defender off the bounce and can finish through contact. Pace can also score in the mid-range and makes opponents pay for giving him space behind the arc. He slides his feet on the defensive end and pushes the pace well in transition. Pace is a talented guard prospect who should impact the game at both ends of the floor throughout the course of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1788762' first='Will' last='Spross'], 6'2 PG Paul VI

Spross joins a talented Eagles' squad that is looking to make another deep run in the postseason. The 6'2 guard has a tight handle, which he uses to blow by his defender off the bounce and can finish in a variety of ways around the rim. Spross rarely gets sped up by on-ball pressure and has a nice release on his jumper. He uses his quick hands to get deflections on the defensive end and is an underrated rebounder. Spross is a true floor general who should run the offense effectively for Paul VI throughout the course of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1595681' first='Jaren' last='Barnett'], 5'8 PG Linden

Barnett transferred into Linden during the summer after Montclair Immaculate closed down. The 5'8 guard plays with composure on the ball as he knows how to get to his spot on the floor and threads passes to his open teammates in the half court. Barnett has a good touch in the mid-range and sets his feet before he shoots. He is a tough on-ball defender and can also play off the ball at times. Barnett is a speedy guard prospect who should make plays with the ball in his hands throughout the course of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1595676' first='Jalen' last='Maldonado'], 6'2 CG Elizabeth

Maldonado joins a loaded Minutemen backcourt, but that won't stop him from making an impact during the course of the season. The 6'2 guard has a good release on his jumper and has the ability to get hot from distance in a hurry. Maldonado is more than just a shooter as he can also get to the rim off the bounce and can finish through contact. He works hard on the defensive end and is an underrated passer. Maldonado is a crafty guard prospect who is looking to lead Elizabeth back to the Group 4 title in 2025-26.

[player_tooltip player_id='1607090' first='Rasheem' last='Yon'], 5'10 PG Thrive Charter

Yon steps into a Thrive Charter squad that is looking to repeat as Group 1 champions. The Life Center Academy transfer has a nice handle, which he uses to blow by his defender off the bounce and is unafraid of drawing contact. Yon is more than just a slasher as he has a good release on his jumper and shoots the ball with confidence. He finds his open teammates in the half court and plays with good anticipation on the defensive end to get steals. Yon is a gritty guard prospect who should impact the game at both ends of the floor over the next couple of months.
