delivered an overall solid performance that saw him provide steady scoring and be effective as a floor general for Linden’s offense. Barnett’s scoring attack saw him convert on a number of different floaters and runners from different angles while also mixing in some tough mid range pull ups off the bounce. Consistently getting in the paint and looking to make plays, Barnett got his teammates the ball in the right spots, whether it was getting the ball to shooters above the break, creating drive and kick threes, or even hitting pocket passes to rollers.

Linden got off to a sluggish start but came roaring back behind their senior transfer floor general, who comes in after the closing of Immaculate Conception (NJ) with three years of starting experience under his belt. A natural leader and elite competitor, Barnett has wasted no time taking the reigns in his new setting, consistently putting his teammates in positions to be successful while scoring himself when needed in big moments. He turned the game around on Saturday with hounding point-of-attack defense, forcing turnovers to ignite transition opportunities the other way. While his size may present some limitations, Barnett is a clearcut scholarship-level lead guard, with D1 programs likely wanting to see further growth as a perimeter shooter over the course of his senior year before potentially pulling the trigger.

Barnett also excelled at making shots from the perimeter early on Saturday afternoon. Barnett did a good job of controlling Linden’s offense and creating plays not only for his teammates but himself as well.

With a collection of talented wings and forwards comprising the bulk of the Beasts’ rotation, it can be easy at times to overlook the smallest guy on the floor. But make no mistake, Barnett remains the engine that makes everything else run in his second go-round with one of the region’s higher-level independent teams. In a narrow close to the UA-sponsored NJ Shoreshots, he proved to be a persistent threat with his skilled and heady play off the bounce. Barnett was a regular touching the paint both to set the table for his teammates or finish with his floater over opposing bigs. He won’t be a fit for everybody at the next level given his stature, but coaches up to the D1 level who embrace smaller guards would be wise to give Barnett a look over the next several months.
