The next generation of players continue to impress me! The play of these young men exemplify how basketball will look in the future.    A shifty small forward with the ball handling skills of a guard. Cooper easily drove around his opponents and scored. Whether it was attacking the basket, knocking down jump-shots or scoring in transition, Cooper found ways to be effective on the basketball court. He's an excellent rebounder who attacks the glass whenever he has the opportunity. Most of his boards led to second chance scoring opportunities for his teammates or himself. Defensively, he excelled at using his length to be disruptive against opposing players. Cooper is a promising young athlete who I expect to have a great season when Middle School basketball starts.     Josiah was the most skilled point guard I saw within his age group. He's a great ball handler who continuously beat defenders and made plays. Josiah plays the position like a true “floor general.” He always found ways of setting up teammates for high percentage shots. There were plays in the game, where Josiah made pin-point passes to teammates streaking down the lane. Each pass was on the money and led to easy lay-ups. He finished the game as the team assists leader. Josiah showed the ability to beat defenders off the dribble, score in the paint and knock down perimeter jump-shots. When he had the opportunity to extend his range beyond the three-point line, he did with extreme confidence. As he continues to grow and mature, Josiah has the capability of becoming an elite player in the future.     Kohlson is a great shooter from mid or long range. Whenever Dominators 7th needed a basket, he calmly knocked them down. After watching him play, I quickly determined he was a threat from three-point range. I watched him knock down multiple threes over the course of the game. Kohlson is a great scorer who showed a knack for beating defenders off the dribble and getting to the basket. Most of his scores came off runners in the lane. Kohlson is fearless! He stayed in attack mode despite the size difference of the opposition. On defense, he was great at playing the passing lanes and doing all the hustle plays needed to help win games. I see this young man as a winner! Kohlson has a great chance of becoming a special player in the future.     RJ is the kind of player who does whatever it takes to win the game. He led the Dominators 7th team in rebounds. I feel confident in saying “he finished the game with close to double-digits.” Not only can this young man rebound, he scores too! During the game he surprised me with his ball handling ability. On some occasions, he brought the ball up-court and initiated the Dominators 7th offense. RJ showed the ability to make plays by dishing out assists. His aggressive play led to positive outcomes on both ends of the court. Offensively, he beat defenders off the dribble, attacked the paint and scored. On defense, he blocked shots, forced numerous turnovers and protected the paint from opposing players.     Aiden is a great team player who does what ever's necessary to win. He showed his value as a great all-around player who rebounds, passes, scores and defends. Offensively, he looked to score whether it was slashing to the basket or taking perimeter shots. Aiden is a excellent rebounder! He dominated the glass by playing with aggression. Aiden attacked the boards with as much ferocity as he did offensively. In the paint he easily scored around the basket with put-backs and floaters. Whenever he found himself open behind the three-point line, he showed the confidence to knock the shot down. In the closing moments of the game he knocked down clutch free-throws to shorten his teams' deficit. Defensively, he was a “jack of all trades.” He forced turnovers, blocked shots and took charges. Aiden is a good player who has a chance to be great in the future.     Hawkins is a solid combo guard who excelled more as a facilitator than a scorer. He was the best passer on Indy Hoops 7th Blue. I watched him dish off six assists. The majority of his passes led to high percentage scores for his teammates. Whether it was a slick bounce pass or crisp chest pass, Hawkins found effective ways to make plays. This young man has a great shooting touch! He knocked down multiple shots from the perimeter, despite being closely guarded by opposing defenders. Whenever he found himself alone behind the three-point line, Hawkins had no problem converting shots. Defensively, he applied excellent on-ball pressure to opposing guards. His defensive pressure caused numerous turnovers. Hawkins played the game with a calm demeanor and showed great leadership skills.
