Over the next week, I'll be previewing some standout players across all divisions of the MIAA. Though prep schools get lots of the love when it comes to basketball exposure, there is still absolutely a good amount of talent in the MIAA.

That being said, let's look at some scoring guards who should have big seasons.

If you told me Klass would be the highest scoring player in the entire MIAA this season, I wouldn't bat an eye. He averaged 24 points per game last year for a really good Beverly team, and he looks even quicker and more athletic when I've seen him more recently. He has a very speedy first step, which he uses to breeze by defenders to get to the rim; once he gets there, he has really solid athleticism and some pretty special finishing chops. He also strokes it from three and has VERY deep range. And teams won't be able to double team him this year either, because Beverly has a really solid supporting cast with some college-level players. Huge year ahead for Klass.

Lopez is another guard who has a strong case to lead the entire MIAA in scoring. The 6-foot-2 bulldog is super quick but also knows when to slow down, use his physicality, and be patient in the mid range, and he's a phenomenal shooter from both there and the three point line. For AAU, Lopez kills it on the Adidas circuit for the top level Mass Rivals squad, so the MIAA will seem like a cake walk after those reps. He's going to dominate every game this season and will have a great chance to be the most effective player in the entire state. He averaged 24 per game last year but could be in line for even more this season.

O'brien plays on a solid Lexington team that he'll be the leader and best player for. The 6-foot-1 guard has a beautiful shot release, which he's able to get off in the mid range or from three, off the dribble or off the catch. He has the handle necessary to get to anywhere he wants on the floor, and he has some really surprising athleticism once he gets there. O'brien will have a solid supporting cast this season, too, so teams won't be able to send their entire defense to him on a consistent basis.

Farrell is a super strong combo guard who can score from all three levels and doesn't really have an offensive weakness. He averaged 18.6 points per game last year for a talented Masconomet Regional team that has some other really solid players. He shoots it well from three, he has some really nice footwork for turnaround middies and pull ups in the mid range, and he has a strong body for drives to the rim. When you take something away from him offensively, he has the IQ and skillset to lean on other parts of his game, like facilitating. Farrell will be one of the better players and higher scorers in the MIAA this year.

Holbrook is a division 5 school, so Brown Jr. likely doesn't get the name recognition that he deserves. But on the AAU circuit, people know him as the guy on Dana Barros that has a beautiful mid range pull up game and some pretty special athletic pop. The 5-foot-10 guard is a fundamentally sound scorer who can light it up from all three levels and has the conditioning to do it for the entire 32 minutes. He's always in attack mode, and he plays hard on the defensive end, too. He'll get 4 to 6 points a game off of steals for easy breakaway layups. Brown Jr. will go off this year and should find a D3 fit at the next level.
