The Great Western Classic consistently sets the bar high for basketball events in the Western region. This year's tournament showcased exceptional talent, with local teams demonstrating impressive skills and teamwork throughout the competition. Get ready to be amazed as we highlight some of the standout performers who truly made this classic event unforgettable.

There's a clear reason behind the numerous offers this player has received. He's a highly efficient player, excelling on both ends of the court. He's a tough defender against larger players, keeping them from getting comfortable. As a defender in the post, he's incredibly elusive. In transition, he's a dynamic player, running the floor with the energy of a guard. He uses his quick first step to drive to the basket, drawing extra defenders. He plays with awareness, finding cutters and moving the ball effectively. His ability to create opportunities without forcing poor shots is particularly noteworthy.

There is a reason one of the smartest recruiters and developers in the country wanted to recruit Openshaw. His growth over the year, but the potential in the next 4-6 years he can have at BYU could really make him a steal. Openshaw is defending very well on the perimeter. He defends with his length and moves his feet and opens his hips quickly. He then uses that length to alter shots beyond the arc or in the mid-range without fouling. He also passes the ball really well out of the post and while under pressure.

Sularuski presents a significant challenge for opposing teams. He operates the point guard position with remarkable precision, making both simple and difficult passes appear effortless. His movement off the ball is particularly detrimental to opponents. He operates with a clear purpose, often cutting through the lane and exploiting smaller defenders. It's what he does after receiving the ball that sets him apart from average guards. He makes decisions based on his intentions and the defensive opportunities, all while maintaining awareness of the entire court. He either finds open cutters or initiates his own play, making the correct choice most of the time.

Laluska is a great prospect and would be a very versatile get at the HM D2 level. His ability to defend bigger but also defend the 3's and 4's helps his cause defensively. Laluska runs the floor very well and he was catching the ball on the move and making some impressive plays. He has some upside at the next level.

This was the first time we've seen Blackett play since the spring, following a foot injury. While his legs appear a bit heavy, his basketball IQ remains sharp. He's making sound decisions, and with a month to prepare, we're expecting a player who will not only attack aggressively but also look to make some highlight-reel plays.
