DMV Freshman Showcase Players Spotlight Part 4

Prep Hoops heavily prioritized getting eyes on up-and-coming prospects and Part 4 of the DMV Freshman Showcase continues to highlight a group of prospects who are entering the high school ranks. We as a staff are looking forward to watching the class of 2029 and their developmental arcs and how their games projects in the future. We also looked strongly at each player's performance during the showcase. Every view of a player plays a role in their evaluation, and it is advantageous to get eyes on a player in multiple settings.    A smart and crafty playmaker who mixes scoring and distributing nicely. He can break you down off the bounce using quick crossovers and showcases very good quickness. Attacks at the rim. Soft touch around the rim finishing with either hand. He also hit shots off the dribble and operates so efficiently in the mid-range areas scoring in a variety of ways and knocking down shots if given room. Intriguing PG to keep an eye on in the 2029 class!     Mikey already poses real problems for opponents on both ends of the floor. He possesses terrific length, mobility, and overall feel for the game. Mikey is a quality athlete who finishes very well around the basket, showing the ability to play through contact or well above the rim. His general skillset seems to improve with each new viewing, yet he still knows how to overwhelm opponents with his motor and physicality. Mikey rebounds the ball at a strong rate and blocks shots well as an interior defender. Once he matures and work on his body “LOOK OUT”     Owen did an excellent job of making an impact as a scorer off the bounce with a low and tight handle and seeking holes in the defense. He can finish well around the basket and step out and knock down the perimeter jumper. If Owen continues to sharpen his offensive efficiency and elevate his decision-making, ensuring he creates advantages with fewer dribbles. Emphasize his ability to create for teammates, play with physicality, initiate contact, maintain pace, and finish above the rim when necessary. Owen could be positioning himself as a strong contender to contribute on varsity for Coach Devin Williams and the St. John's Catholic Prep program.     The little guard competed and played hard in the two games I watch. Showed that size doesn't matter. Competed on both ends of the floor and showed his willingness to stick his nose into the action. Gotta love Amir approach to the game. The young competes once he steps between the black lines.
