As May approaches, grassroots teams are finding any way to sharpen up their chemistry before heading out to their respective circuit events and eventually, the live period that takes place on May 15-17. On Sunday, [program_tooltip program_id='2076999' first='Team' last='Melo'] and New World met at Calvert Hall to hold a scrimmage for 15s, 16s and 17s.

Concluding with the 15s, I break down some prospects that stood out:

Standout performance here from Word as he was the most productive player on the floor and showcased his well-rounded scoring ability and soft touch on his jumper. Whether he was attacking gaps himself to get to his midrange spots, spot ups from deep or operating around the rim, Word understands how to put the ball in the bucket at an efficient clip. The joy of his game is that nothing is forced. He gets or creates his opportunities within the flow and does a great job of quickly taking advantage of mismatches when a smaller guard or slower-footed big is defending him.

Aside from Word, Russell was the prospect who really left an impression on me walking away on Sunday. The 6-foot-4 freshman doesn't really fit the description of a specific position and at this stage of his development, that's perfectly fine. He checks a ton of boxes, but firstly brings a highly competitive motor that quickly resulted in bulk rebounds, transition opportunities as he ran the floor with purpose and multiple defensive assignments that he can handle effectively. If he wasn't finishing around the rim, Russell was rising over his defender in the midrange and burying shots over a contested hand. Simply put, Russell has the makings to be a 'gamer' that helps you win games now and especially in the long run as his skillset expands, as he is young for his grade.

Bentley brought the energy as a junkyard dog type of guard who wasn't shy about sticking his nose in the mix to earn extra possessions for his team. It seemed like whenever there was a 50/50 ball or rebounds just outside of his area, Bentley pursued aggressively and always came out with the possession. He's an aggressive downhill threat who invites contact on drives to draw fouls, but can also show composure and balance on shots off movement from the perimeter. He'll be a name on our radar this spring/summer during 3SSB play.

Beautiful mechanics on his jumper and the rotation of the ball after the release is just as pretty. Becker is a smooth combo guard that can make some plays off the bounce in spurts, but his calling card is his long-range shooting and it was made known in this scrimmage. He knocked down multiple triples in the win and on a team that is in need of production in the backcourt, Becker has an opportunity to put up numbers as a main cog this spring/summer.

Composed floor general that did a nice job of controlling the pace for New World. Plays with instincts and a high-level feel in getting to his spots, creating opportunities for others as he draws an additional defender and can come through when his own number is called. It wasn't a dominant performance for Posey, but the mistakes were limited and you can tell his presence on the ball provides stability and calmness when the pressure is high.

I quickly noticed and improved, more chiseled frame that Rhodes has been working diligently on since the high school season ended. Now standing a legitimate 6-foot-5 and putting on muscle rather quickly, it's only a matter of time before he become a mismatch nightmare. In this showing, there were a few times that the opposing five man was guarding him and Rhodes wasted no time in getting his catches from the top of the key and using his first step to blow by the big man before finishing at the rim. He knocked down a three in the third quarter and it looked like the ball was coming out of his hands more fluidly than it was in the fall. A lot of tools here with Rhodes.
