Southwest Basketball Camp: Day 1’s Top Standouts

The 8th Annual Southwest Basketball Camp, hosted by Gregg Rosenberg and Cedric Cobb Sr., tipped off August 18–19 at The PHHacility in Phoenix, AZ. The gym was packed with talent from across the state, showcasing some of Arizona's premier prospects. Over the next few articles, I'll be breaking down the players who made the biggest impact—starting with my standouts from Day 1.    The camp's top defender, he matched that same intensity on the offensive end, showing there wasn't much he couldn't do. He consistently made defenders pay — attacking off the dribble, finishing strong at the rim, and knocking down 3's. His excellent court vision stood out as well, keeping teammates involved while maintaining complete control of the ball. With his all-around skill set and ability to command the floor, he had the full attention of everyone in the gym.     At the camp he showcased his all-around game, impacting every area on the floor. He rebounded at a high level, knocked down shots from deep, finished above the rim, and ran the floor hard in transition. Defensively, he protected the rim, slid with guards on the perimeter, and even pushed the break himself after pulling down boards     He excelled at running the floor in transition, consistently creating easy scoring opportunities by sprinting the court and finishing plays. He also displayed some ability to stretch the floor with his jumper while maintaining a strong presence in the paint. His blend of transition finishing, shooting touch, and interior play allowed him to impact the game in multiple ways.       One of the camp's most consistent performers, he impressed with his decision-making and ability to make the right reads every trip down the floor. Always scanning the court with his head up, he handled pressure well, beat defenders off the dribble, and finished through contact at the rim. He also showed versatility as a scorer, knocking down shots off the catch and attacking closeouts efficiently.       Super smooth with the ball in his hands, he stood out with his ability to change speeds and keep defenders off balance. He finished well around the basket and capitalized on his opportunities from 3, both off the catch and the dribble. His passing also caught attention, as he consistently set up teammates for easy looks.       He elevated everyone around him by making the game easier for his teammates, locking in on getting others involved and showcasing his strong court vision. His passing was precise, consistently putting the ball in the right spots. With a tight handle, he can create separation and knock down 3's with confidence.     He was locked in and operating in his own world — getting to any spot he wanted and finishing plays with authority through contact. His quick first step consistently created separation, making him a tough cover in one-on-one situations. What stood out most was his ability to beat his defender off the dribble and dictate the tempo of the possession. A true three-level scorer, he showed off the complete package: knocking down threes with confidence, pulling up smoothly from the mid-range, and attacking downhill with power at the rim.     A true floor general, he was one of the top point guards at the camp. His ability to get teammates involved and consistently make the right reads stood out every time he was on the floor. He never wasted dribbles, played with poise, and was nearly impossible to speed up. When his team needed a bucket, he shifted gears and showed he can score in multiple ways — whether creating off the bounce, pulling up, or attacking the rim. His court vision was among the best at the camp, setting the tone for his squad and making everyone around him better.     One of the best transition scorers at the event, he was a constant threat whenever he got out and ran. A reliable lob target and finisher, he put pressure on defenses every trip down the floor. Beyond transition, he mixed in perimeter shooting with threes and showed his ability to attack downhill, finishing strong through contact.
