KY Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Evaluations

With over 50 athletes showing out at our event, we had the opportunity to evaluate every player during 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 scrimmages. The following are the evaluations for Team 1.    Jaylen was a stock riser for me at the showcase. I was impressed with his ability to score at all levels efficiently. At these events you see some players try to force too much and he consistently made the right play every trip. He scored at all levels both in transition and in the half court. I also was impressed with how easily he broke down defenders in the half court. Coach Brown and Henry Clay have a big time athlete coming up.     Gabe also really impressed me at the event. He is very smooth with the ball for his age. He is also quick, once he got defenders on his hip he was able to score at will at the rim. He scored multiple tough finishes with both hands around the bucket. As he grows and develops more, Coach Croft is going to have a straight bucket getter on his hands.     River was another elite bucket getter at our event. He showcased his ability as a knockdown shooter hitting multiple in the game that I watched. Ashland seems to always have a stable of elite guards and River is no exception to that. As he continues to improve he could turn into one of the top scorers in the 16th region.     Jack was one of the better big men at the event. He is very strong for his size. I was impressed with his ability to begin spacing the floor where he scored multiple mid range jumpers in both 3 on 3 and 5 on 5. In 3 on 3 he dominated the block. As he develops more on both ends, I expect Jack to make an impact for Grayson County.     Ty was arguable the biggest stand out at the event. He is 6'5 and continues to grow but has the skillset of an elite guard. I was impressed with how shifty and tight his handle was for his length. Ty scored at all 3 levels and there really was no one at the camp that was stopping any option. He had multiple trips where he tore the rim off the backboard. Ty showed that he is one of the top freshman in the state. He already had a large role for Oldham last year, and I anticipate that to continue.     Coleson was a major stock riser for me at the event. He is very lengthy for his size, and shown he can impact both ends of the floor. At events like this, it is easy to notice guys that try to make hustle/winning plays and he was one of the few to do it. He has a very smooth offensive game, was a knockdown shooter, and defensively had multiple blocks. Woodford has another stand out coming up the ranks with Coleson.     Parker was another guy I was not aware of coming into the event. I think Ryle has a high potential guard coming up with Parker. He showed his ability to handle the ball with minimal turnovers, and make the right play when it was needed. I was impressed with how he played off the ball. In events like this a lot of guys stand and ball watch but he was playing in space. I think Parker will continue to stock rise in the coming years.
