National Open Championship: Guards and Wings 15U

Guards and Wings are some of the most important positions on the court. These players are known to defend, rebound and score. All of the players on this list showed their importance to the teams they played with.    Layton made an immediate impact for the Illinois Bears 15U team. He provided instant offense by knocking down multiple threes and scoring put-backs around the basket. Layton is the kind of player who gave his all to help the team. He scored tough baskets through contact. These scores led to three-point play opportunities from the free-throw line. His enthusiasm was inspiring to his teammates. Whenever he made a positive play, Layton was fired up! His actions inspired his team to go on a scoring run that got them back into the game. Defensively, Layton gets after it. He played excellent man-to-man defense, forced numerous turnovers and made scoring a difficult task. Layton is a good all-around player who could become great as his game progresses.     Liam was the kind of player who did everything on the basketball court. He scored, assisted, rebounded and defended. On offense, he knocked down perimeter jump-shots. He often found teammates in scoring positions with his assists. Liam excelled at blowing by defenders and scoring around the basket. This young man played the game with heart and determination. Whenever he made positive plays, he did so by scoring timely baskets or grabbing rebounds. During fast-breaks, Liam finished with strong lay-ups at the rim. On defense, he took charges, forced turnovers and blocked a couple of shots. He is a good player who has the capability to be great.     Evan is a great all around player who attacks his opponents and beats them off the dribble. Whether it's scoring in the paint or knocking down mid and long range shots, Evan found ways to be effective offensively. As I said, he has a great all-around game that allows him to play at a high level. Evan is a great passer! He was great at finding teammates with slick dimes. Some were behind the back, some were no-looks. Most of his assists led to high percentage shots on the perimeter or in the paint. Evan is a strong wing that shows the ability to finish through contact. He is a solid basketball player who will have a successful high school season this fall.     This young man is a shooter! Throughout the game, I watched him knock down four long distance threes. Dylan knew his role as the team shooter. He's very knowledgeable of using screens and moving around within the Power House MN 15U offense. Ian always found ways to free himself for good looks at the basket. He also showed the ability to score off the dribble with floaters and step-back jump-shots. Defensively, he gave maximum effort by staying attached to his opponent. His pressure on the ball made handling difficult for the opposition. With his shooting ability, Ian will always have a spot on a team. Shooting is a valuable skill to have and this young man has it!     Jaden is a hardworking player who gave his all on the basketball court. He plays hard on both offense and defense. Offensively, he shoots the ball well from long range. In the game against Davis Brothers 2028, Jaden knocked down multiple three-pointers and found ways to attack the basket. He's a great rebounding guard who excels at attacking the boards on offense and defense. Many of his boards led to second chance scoring opportunities for his teammates. Jaden did not mind battling for rebounds despite being smaller than his opponents. On defense, Jaden was great at applying on-ball pressure to opposing players. His tenacity forced numerous turnovers from the opposition. He's a talented player who has a bright future.
