The last week of July signals a change in the summer basketball scene; with the AAU season wrapping up and Elite Camps taking center stage.

These camp settings are particularly popular in New England, most notably with some of the regions top academic programs - Harvard, Brown, Yale, Dartmouth, Boston University, Holy Cross, and Tufts

However, the high academics aren't the only programs that run their own Elite Camps and today, we're heading to New Hampshire to check out an event run by one of the top programs in all of Division II - Southern New Hampshire University!

SNHU hosted their fifth annual Boys High School Basketball Showcase today and below you'll find Part I of my Elite Camp Evals for the event, featuring five standout performers from the day's action.

Baptiste, a bruising forward out of Tabor Academy, stood out in this setting with his ability to finish around the rim. The 6'7" forward used his thick frame to his advantage when carving out space in the paint, while also showing some athletic pop as a rebounder in traffic. He was patient with the ball in his hands, had touch when going to his jump hook, and even knocked down a few threes out of the trailer position. Defensively, he did a nice job of competing on the perimeter and showed the ability to rotate off his man to cut off driving lanes.

Hoffmaster, a physically mature guard out of Concord Academy, impressed with his ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. A big guard with a college ready frame, he did a nice job of knocking down shots in catch and shoot situations, while also showing some wiggle as a driver. He used his frame and size to finish around the rim and elevates nicely into his jumper, allowing him to get if off over most defenders. On the other end, he can guard any perimeter spot, bumps opposing guards off their spots without fouling, and does a nice job of rebounding in space.

O'Connell, a heady guard out of Cushing Academy, showed great poised as a decision maker with the ball in his hands. He showed poise as a ball-handler operating in ball screen actions, capable of turning the corner off the screen or hitting the role man or pop guy with crafty passes. He did a good job of keeping defenders off balance with changes of speed and direction and showed good mechanics on his jump shot. A capable defender, he guarded either spot in the back-court and showed a good understanding of angles that allowed him to make plays off the ball.

Erickson, a high motor combo forward out of Cushing Academy, impressed with his two-way versatility. Maybe the best open floor athlete at the event, he has a nice combination of positional size, length, and athletic pop. He's capable of playing in the paint or on the perimeter, does a nice job of attacking closeouts off the bounce, and is a quality offensive rebounder. He can operate as a screener that rolls hard to the rim or pops into space and is a terrific finisher around the rim in transition. Defensively, he can guard up and down a lineup and plays with toughness on the glass.

DeJohn, a scoring wing out of Worcester Academy, left his mark on the day with his ability to make shots in bunches from behind the arc. Easily the best shooter throughout the scrimmage portion, he got hot early in catch and shoot situations and then showed the ability to make them off the bounce too. Once the ball went through the net a few times, his driving game opened up too, where he showed some craftiness around the rim and the physicality need to finish through contact. Defensively, he made an impact on the glass and defended in space without fouling.
