All-Academic Camp Standouts I

Two weeks ago, prospects from across the country headed to the east coast, specifically to Babson College, for the annual All-Academic Camp.   One of the premier events in the northeast for academically oriented student-athletes, this event drew over 400 prospects from all parts of the United States.   Below are the first five of fifteen standouts that I had the chance to watch at All-Academic Camp.    Kaplan, a jitterbug guard out of Dallas Highland Park in Texas, impressed from the jump with his creavity and ability to make plays for others. The lefty has a great feel for the game with the ball in his hands, knows how to play at different speeds, and has terrific floor vision as a passer. He gets to his spots off the bounce, has the ability to score in a variety of ways around the basket, and can really push the tempo in transition. Defensively, he's a disruptive on-ball defender that has the ability to get his hands on plenty of passes and loose balls.     Sembower, a highly skilled, big guard out of The Rock School in Florida, stood out with his toughness and ability to make plays off the bounce. The physically developed guard stands at 6'4", has a thick frame, and has good burst in the open floor. He can handle the ball in transition, defends multiple positions, and has a high motor as a rebounder. He's got the ability to operate as a grab and go rebounder, has good mechanics on his jump shot, and is capable of knocking down catch and shoot threes at a high clip.     Cummings, a floor spacing forward out of Lake Washington in Washington, impressed with his ability to make standstill and movement threes both in the half-court and in transition. One of the better shooters in the gym, he has great positional size and a quick release on his jumper. He's a fluid mover that uses his length to his advantage on the defensive end of the floor and makes an impact as a rebounder in space. Offensively, he's capable of finishing with either hand around the rim and excels as a pop guy out of ball screens.     Wane, an athletic and versatile wing out of Austin Prep in Massachusetts, made his presence felt with his defensive versatility and high two-way motor. He has good positional size and great length, rebounds defensively with the ability to initiate the break, and can defend up and down a line-up with his combination of lateral mobility and strength. Offensively, he's a capable scorer that excels when finishing around the rim, cutting off the ball, and attacking closeouts as a slasher.     Hutchison, a physically imposing wing out of Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, had moments where he was the most impressive prospect in the gym, capitalizing on his combination of athleticism, skill, and strength. Offensively, he has an inside-out scoring package, makes good decisions off the bounce, and can score at all three levels. He's at his best when being aggressive off the bounce, using his combination of athleticism and strength to finish with authority around the rim. Defensively, he's a high level, aggressive rebounder with real grab and go ability.    Keep an eye out later this week for more coverage from the All-Academic Camp!
