June 17-18 I watched the third ever Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 6 pools of 16 teams each.

The 6 winners advanced to the official Section-7 June 20-22 versus some of the top teams on the West Coast.

I watched a bunch of full and half of some of the games. I obviously did not watch every team and when I watched, I am basing it on that performance and on the teams success combined.

Congrats to Arcadia, Centennial, Chaparral, Cienega, Dysart & Salpointe Catholic for earning spots into the weekends Section-7 Tournament.

1st Team Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1323295' first='Brayden' last='Barrett'] Verrado

A bigger wing forward with skill for days. He showed off in the chip with around 35 points. Many of them coming from way beyond the arc hitting 8 triples impressively. He will also score with quick spin moves to the basket, mid-range fall aways and is good on the glass to score on put backs. He was arguably the best overall player in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id='2280481' first='Cameron' last='Connell'] Chapparal

A highly skilled guard can shoot the cover off the ball. He will rattle in threes off the catch one by one. He is always in shot-ready mode and ready to fire away with a quick trigger. He can get to the basket, sees the court well and is good on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id='2422763' first='Camren' last='Hicks'] Salpointe Catholic (Pictured)

A bigger wing who has a smooth handle. He is very fluid and the lefty is one of the top juniors in Tucson. He has a nice frame to bang inside and rebounds well. He can take a few steps and flush it down. He is great around the rim and plays from mid and in with a very polished mid-range pull-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1986845' first='Mason' last='Kendrick'] Arcadia

An athletic scoring guard flies on the break. He is another that works well in the middle game with pull-ups and is a stud in transition who will also throw it down easily. He will drive and kick straight into a shooting pocket and his rebounding truly affected multiple outcomes of games. He had 22 points and 18 rebounds in the Chip. He was another of one of the best players in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id='1834712' first='Santiago' last='Leyva-Fonseca'] Dysart

A power forward with soft hands and a cerebral approach to the game. He is a good passer out of the double team and can find a teammate. He scores it around the basket with advanced post footwork and uses his physicality. He can also rip thru in the paint and kiss it off the glass. He truly works hard to rebound and use his body smartly.

[player_tooltip player_id='2834414' first='Jackson' last='Moore'] Cienega

One of the top junior point guards at the event was wrecking every team he played. He scores it with blow bys to the cup and he hit an unusual amount of threes off the catch this event. He really controls the pace of every game and guided his team perfectly to win their bracket. He was one of the best juniors in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id='1598402' first='Johnny' last='Rios III'] Centennial

Another top point guard is heady, hyper competitive and tough as nails. He is undersized but he is a very quick ball handler and competitive to a fault. He likes to attack the basket but has a tough mid-range pull-up and he is a true needle threader facilitator. He led them to join the weekends S7 games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2147243' first='Jaden' last='Rodgers'] Cienega

The D1 football prospect is a tough two-way basketball player. He is a physical guard who scores thru the contact better then most. He is a phenomenal off ball defender and on the ball. He blocks shots and defends multiple positions. He will score with catch threes, floaters and tough drives.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432454' first='Sekou' last='Sackor'] Centennial

Another top defensive guard who seems to keep growing every time I see him. He collects steals in bunches and is a true ball hawk making the opposing guards uncomfortable. He scores it in transition and getting to the basket with his impressive first step. He seems to glide in the air with advanced body control scoring at the rim.

June 17-18 I watched the third ever Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 6 pools of 16 teams each.
